View Full Version : Fitting a project to CD

I have a small project that is far too small to waste a DVD on as the whole project is only 1GB
What suggestion for settings for the sector size would be needed to squeeze the project down to 700MB to fit on a CD
Just a try really, I'd rather see what it looks like on CD than waste a full DVD just for a 1GB project

Ideally:
(TargetSectors x 2,048) x 1.015 = Output_size
(TargetSectors x 2,048) x 1.015 = 734,003,200 = 700 MB
--> TargetSectors=353103

I don't think there are many players that will play it back. I've heard of a couple... but not in a long time.

@steptoe
DVD file system into 1 (one) CD == miniDVD (burning it using Nero Express afaik). As alredy said by jdobbs, this will depend if your SAP suports it or not. Mine (LG DV5921N) supports it since max bitrate doesn't exceed 6000 Kbps. In this section from VideoHelp site (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers) you will find (perhaps) more informations about your SAP.

Or just use a DVD rewritable.

Had a play around, and the CCETargetSize=380050 I used gave me about 682MB for video to allow for any prossible problems, so let it run through and quickly checked an M2V file as it was processing the rest
Oh dear, I forgot the original source was a miserable 352x240 so it filled half the screen, so set the half-D1 and tried again, but had another idea in the meantime
Yes, I have tried resizing it to full screen, acceptable but only just, so thought I'd let the player resize it and keep what quality the original has without reducing even further by running filters on it
I ran the files through DVDShrink as a full DVD backup and used the custom compression to drop it down to 698MB and let it run to the end
It played fine on the computer, so burnt it to CD using IMGBurn v2.xx as you would a normal DVD
I also removed as much useless junk from the start and end of each video as I could without effecting the final video too much and reauthored it again using TMPGenc DVD Author to reduce the size even more before processing it. Not the most accurate built-in video editor I know, but it does the job while deciding if I really need the extra functionality of v2.xx
The end result was it proves my probably useless method does actually work, only if your final project is close enough to 700MB to warrant using a CD instead of a DVD and wasting all that space, plus anybody can see just how small the video project is by looking at the burn outline
Maybe useful for school projects or short videos
Use a full face printable CD with a nice print and you wouldn't know the difference ...... possibly
