Sorry if this is a repost but i couldnt find an answer when searching.
I have a backup copy of a movie in xvid format and I have the subtitles in .SRT format.
Im looking for the simpliest way to add subtitles directly into the video. I have tried this before in Vdub/nandub but it always wants me to rencode the video and I would like to not change the video quality. Thank you in Advance.

You cant't without reencoding. One simple way is to use AutoGK. If you want to have a single file and subtitles in it without reencode you can try Sub2Divx (http://userxp.tripod.com/sub2divx.htm). The resulted .divx file can be played with subtitles by DivX Player on PC, or in many DivX Standalone players. The advanced of .divx is that you can set the font for subtitles, because many standalone players have ugly subtitles fonts.
enjoy,

well i guess i dont mind re-encoding, mainly i just want to keep the xvid files the same quality and preferably .avi files.

If you still insist on AVI and embedded subs... One can use AVI-Mux GUI (http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/amg/) to mux your subs to AVI-file. Then, install DShow-subtitle filter (say, VSFilter (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84359&release_id=373770) or ffdshow (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=53761)-subtitler), configure them properly (VSF should be set as "Load always", ffdshow > Subtitles = On, Accept embedded subs = On) and then run your AVI on any DShow-player. AFAIK, BSPlayer can properly display such embedded subs without external subtitlers. I doubt, though, that hardware players can do the same job...

Subs muxed inside AVis aren't a good idea in my experience.. My SAP (Waitec HTX with MTK Chipset) doesn't read them at all, while plays fine all the "standalone" supported formats (Is it just a problem of mine or is it usual?)
If the target is a pc you don't need muxing together, also if players can read them with no problem.
