View Full Version : How come there has never been an MPEG2 codecs comparison in the front page?

I think it would be very interesting to see how HC, QuEnc, CCE and TMPG compare to each other in these categories:

- Low bitrate (~2000+kbps) and high bitrate (~6000+kbps).

- High Motion and low motion scenes.

- Progressive and interlaced content.

That would make for 8 different scenarios for each codec. A group of people could be assigned to make each encode, then turn it over to whoever we choose as a reviewer. Is there any interest in seeing such a comparison?

that sounds like a pretty good idea.

might keep the codec developers on their toes, too... for example CCE doesn't appear to have improved at all between SP 2.7 and SP2.

here's another codec scenario (albeit one that doesn't come up often) - a perfect still with moderate texture... in theory an easy encode.

I would love to see this.

Yeah, DVDs are still around and very widely used. And not only DVDs.
