I have tried Txt2Vobsub, but Txt2Vobsub gets timecodes wrong, creates buggy bmp's which cause son2vobsub to generate "forced" subs, and doesn't pay any attention to <i> tags.

SRT2BMP makes beautiful bitmaps, but outputs in the Philips SVCD designer format, which can't be used by son2vobsub.

So, here's the question: How can I convert Philips sub format to Maestro son+spf format?

Since both formats are basically text files plus bitmaps, I doubt the bitmaps would need to be changed...really just a matter of converting the .sub file to the .son and .spf file.

It's weird, but SupRip can rip to both Philips and Maestro formats, but It doesn't appear that it can convert between the two.

Try Subtitle WorkShop, don't know, or DivXLand Media Subtitle.
But...
1. You can use MaestroSBT to convert text 'srt' to 'son+spf+bmp' and then use Son2Vobsub to convert to VobSub.
- or -
2. Use SubtitleCreator to make text srt->SUP then use Sup2Vobsub to convert to VobSub.
