Un-stretching TNTHD?

As some of you may know, TNT-HD in the US stretches its 4:3 SD content to 16:9 on the HD channel, by keeping the center close to its original aspect ratio, and stretching the sides out to make up for it. Is there a way that this could be resolved?

Here's a video clip with some wheels on the left side of the screen, and they move to the center. I hope that it can help.

Your best try would be WarpedResize, which is included in tbarry's SimpleResize plugin. A matter of try&error, and only an approximation, however, since it's not clear how exactly the stretching was done.

Thanks. I've tried using that before, and just wanted to know if anyone here had any previous experience, or could make some suggestions.
