Explain to me how i can fix this f******* problem. I do as i'm told on the http://www.doom9.org/gknot-divx4.htm. I have downloaded the GordianKnot package from Doom9.org. And still nothing work. I have followed the dvd2avi guide step by step. It still keeps on giving me this failure!!
OS = Win2k Pro.
HELP!
Only reason i swithed to Gordian Knot was because Xmpg crashed all the time. It made 16mb only.. I dont get it...

i had the same problem. try to re-install avisynth by hand (and dont forget the reg-file).

this problem has nothing to do with avisynth.
all you have to do is:
1) install the FULL pack. ONLY use the software included and nothing else.
2) rip the dvd with smartripper.
3) create the d2v with dvd2avi (included).
if you do it that way it works, trust me.

i have done so, but only re-installing avisynth fixed the problem...
dunno why, but that worked

I have recieved that error before and I noticed that this happens when you open vob files with DVD2AVI with a d2v project already open in gknot. I just uninstalled everything (including reg entries) and reinstalled...

I've ripped my dvd with DVDDecrypter.
Doesn't make sence...

you must use the version of smartripper that comes with gordian knot.
gordian knot info page:
"DO NOT USE ANY OTHER RIPPER THAN THE ONES INCLUDED IN THE PACK!
read this line again, it's very, very important!!!!"

Not exactly :) But the rule is...if you use another ripper besides SM then don't come back here whining about how it doesn't work.

Ok, I'm suffering from this error myself, and none of the things mentioned will cure it..
Here's what I've tried so far:
* Reinstalled GKnot (0.20, 0.21, 0.23) - same error.
* Reinstalled AVISynth 1.05 - same error.
* Manually deinstalling GKnot and AVISynth by deleting all files and cleaning out the Registry - same error.
This has happened twice in just a few days now; first time was a couple of days after I started playing with CCE-SP 2.50, to try out the robshot.com thingie. I tried everything to no avail, so I ended up reinstalling the OS (which, btw, is Windows 2000 Server, SP2, all patches on). It worked fine after that.
Then, I installed a few other programs after GKnot, including VFAPI 1.05 and CCE-SP 2.50. Sometime after this the error started appearing again. I'm not sure if these programs have anything to do with this error, but it does seem likely, eh? Another interesting fact is that I can't install VFAPI correctly. VFAPI Converter doesn't work either (it complains about the .d2v file as well). I've had VFAPI on my system for months, so I don't see why it suddenly wouldn't work now.
Can it be that CCE-SP 2.50 is doing something really wicked to the system settings??
I'd really appreciate some input on this, before I'm going completely bonkers...

My VFAPI works fine... no problems with converting d2v 2 vfapi and using it in Virtualdub or Nandub... the d2v doesn't seem to work in Gordian Knot for me. Not even if i follow the guide step by step of clean everything up and reinstall.

The newest version of Smartripper can create a .d2v project as well. When I use that file for GKnot then I get the same error message as you guys, however when I use the .d2v file created by DVD2AVI (from same vobs ofcourse) GKnot works like a charm.
Dunno if this is of any help to you, but just felt like mentioning it.

Keep in mind that the d2v file that SR creates for NTSC discs are incorrect. AFAIK PAL discs work great though.

Yeah, I know the latest SR can do .d2v's :) I haven't tested it though. I'm using stock GKnot, and I can't get it to work again..

Were running out of options here.
Please explain the problem your having in a little more detail. You might also let us know what Gknot settings your using. Have you tried using DVD2AVI 1.82? I've used this version for a long time and never had a problem. Although I don't recall having issues with 1.76 either.

@grovsnus:
with how many different d2v files did you try?
when you say you reinstalled, did you install the FULL pack?
and after that rip the dvd with sr 2.40.
then create a new d2v file with dvd2avi 1.76?

Well i've tried anything... using a newer DVD2AVI and, yes, reinstalled the GKNot pack... can't seem to get anything right here... Maybe a new version could help me, but I will not do it.
All these troubles have eventually made me change method and product.
I found something that works just great. The DVD:reaper and it's fast too.
So it might be last from me.

The WEF: Yeah, I am installing the FULL package, and have tried three versions (with complete uninstalls and reboots inbetween). I am not using any programs outside the GKnot package (why bother? GKnot has been working for months!)
I've got three .d2v's on my HD, none of which work. I have tried redoing the whole process, e.g. ripping with the SR that comes with GKnot, and making a new .d2v-file with the DVD2AVI that is included (which is 1.76) - same error. I really don't think GKnot and its apps cause the error, but something is making them fail for some reason.. Remember, it used to work great for months (since .19), but all of a sudden it's starting to behave like this - twice in just a week.
It's like *something* is preventing the opening of .d2v-files? What is actually GKnot doing when you open a .d2v-file? Is that your code opening it and displaying the cropping window, or is it some app you are controlling with your code? What checks are you doing on the file to see if it's valid or not, and what kind of things can happen if it fails (i.e. what checks fail?)
I really don't feel like reinstalling a server three times in just a week, so please bear with me for a bit :)
The system btw is an Athlon XP on a Soyo Dragon board, running Win 2000 Advanced Server (Yeah, I need it), Service Pack 2 and all MS patches installed. Other software includes SQL Server 2000 w/ SP2, Office XP, CCE-SP 2.50 (which I have tried uninstalling to no avail), PowerDivX 3.2, PowerDVD 4.0, WinAmp 2.78 and WinAce 2.11. That's all of it, actually.. (It's supposed to run as an SQL-server and do some movie encoding only)
Problems started some time around installing and/or using either CCE-SP or PowerDivX, if that can be any help...
Hope you can see something I can't!

edit:
oh, and MaTTEr - settings in GKnot have no effect. It's the same even if I obliterate GKnot completely from my system (even manually killing things in Registry) and reinstall it completely. So far the only successful step have been to reinstall Windows, and I don't want to do that again..

create an avs-file manually like this:
LoadPlugin("X:\...\mpeg2dec.dll")
mpeg2source("X:\...\Movie.d2v")
does it play in windows media player 6.4 ?
if not, what is the error message that you are getting?

Suddenly I encouter that problem too!
I'm using DivX 4.11, GKnot .021 and everything worked fined but suddenly (while trying to rip Bram Stoker's Dracula) GKnot gives an error message as well. Nothing in the system has been altered...
*weird

TheWEF:
OK, I did what you suggested, and WMP 7.01 says:
Unrecognized exception!
(G:\$Movies\STIGMATA-TEST\test.avs, line 2)
The .avs-file contains:
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\GordianKnot\MPEG2DEC.DLL")
mpeg2source("G:\$Movies\STIGMATA-TEST\Stigmata 30fps AC3.d2v")
The mpeg2dec.dll file is the one coming with GKnot 0.23, and the .d2v-file was created with DVD2AVI 1.76 with ripped data from SR 2.40 (also from GKnot 0.23).
Does that tell you anything..? Sounds like avisynth is having some problems, eh? I did reinstall that though.. I'll fiddle a bit more with the Registry and see what I come up with.

Alright!
It's been fixed, finally...
Here's what I did:
1. Uninstalled ALL apps that have any connection to DivX (GKnot and all its parts, PowerDivX, DivX codec, AVISynth, HuffyYUV)
2. Entered the Registry and deleted *everything* that had any connection to: .avs, .d2v, divx (in general terms) and any remains from the above apps and utils.
3. Reboot
4. Installed the DivX 4.12 codec.
5. Installed GKnot 0.20 and then the 0.23 Update.
Voila!
The difference this time and the last time I cleaned the Registry is that last time I never removed the DivX codec.. Not that I believe it has got anything to do with this, but you might want to remove it just in case..
Now, if I just could understand what is *causing* this problem to occur! I've had it three times already as I've said... I'll keep a diary in the next few days just in case I need one ;)
Thanks for your patience, and hope you can learn something from my mistakes...
