Hi Guys!

I have a few videos in XVID format which I want to convert in DVD format so that I can watch them in my DVD Player which doesn't support XVID format. Can anyone tell me which is the best software to convert XVID to DVD without much quality loss and automatic size analysis.

At present I am using ConvertXtoDVD from VSO and the output quality it gives is pretty good. Moreover it automatically does the bitrate calculations. By automatic calculations I mean that if I put just one movie in a DVD, it used the whole disk space for the movie and on the other hand if I put 4 movies, it automatically calculates the bitrate to fir all the movies in One DVD, still preserving the best quality. The only drawback of this software is that it is very very slow. It encodes the movie at just 2X speed. So if I put three movies, each of 2 hrs long, it takes about 3 hrs. to make the DVD.

Thank you.

There are many DVD bitrate calculators out there, like:
http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm

As for DVD encoding, CCE (CinemaCraft Encoder) is the best encoder out there, in terms of speed AND quality.
By the way, 2x is fast my friend! of course you could expect more, but 4x is probably the highest you can get with the most advanced CPUs.

As for the quality loss, you can expect little quality loss if you put only one movie on the DVD, but starting from 2 movies, the loss is going to be visible, be it artefact-wise or definition-wise, depending on your resolution choice.

that's actually not bad.

DVD2SVCD is slightly better rated at this type of conversion at http://www.dvdrhelp.com
in the Tools section than ConvertXtoDVD, but ConvertXtoDVD is highly rated there. DVD2SVCD requires you to understand the process of conversion more. There are a lot more settings to tweak and it's maybe not a good choice for lesser experienced users who just want a tool that works without having to change 20+ options each time you run it.

2x speed is pretty good actually for conversion, as idiotunes said. And to help you in the future, instead of asking "What is the best..." (people on many video forums object to questions with the word "best" for a variety of very good reasons) you could ask "What do you recommend...".

It is incredibly fast but there are some problems with it too. It doesn't seem to respect maximum bitrate restraints so there are spikes that make my hardware player stutter.
You could try FAVC, a thread or two down the page, and optimise for speed on the Video tab. (Note this uses 352*480 instead of 720*480; you can change that if you wish bu8t the speed will suffer.)
