@Wilbert
1.Win2000,XP?VISTA uncorresponds.
May be it means that Vista is unsupported for the moment.

Anyway if someone made it works with Vista...

Does anybody know (or fancy to try and guess) when FairUse4WM will work on the most up to date WM11? I desperately want to get FairUse to work, but I don't want to risk messing up my new computer in an attempt to roll it back.

If you browse through this topic you can find all that you need. I know that 62 pages can be overwhelming but if you go back a few pages you'll find a download and info on rolling back wmp if you need to.

I've been reading this thread since page 28, but I can't figure this one out, somehow my ibx was updated, im thinking through one of microsoft's hotfix's, I tried rolling back using the method, but it would not let me uninstall the wmp runtime 11, after getting stuck for awhile, I upgraded to wmp11, then when I tried to uninstall using the method, it uninstalls wmp11 but in add/remove programs, it is still listed, runtime 11 is also still listed, when I do attempt to open wmp it says that the program will need to be reinstalled again, I'm not sure what to do at this point, everytime I install wmp11, and try the rollback that way I can't get wmp11 runtime off, any suggestions.

also under program files WMP setup file 3 times, 3 different files (forgot the real name of the file, name of the wmp setup file) but it has setupfilename(1),(2),(3), not sure what I did, I did change the name of the file using someone's "no update method" (you go into safe mode and change the setup name, I put a 0 at the end and it stops asking you to update, it works too!) Any suggestions? I tried a system restore no go

ugh! I wish I remembered how I rolled back mine. There's an alternate way to do it I think by typing in something in run to delete. It's def somewhere in this thread b/c it's brought up at least once a week. Try a search using different key words until you find it. There's directions on how to do it with a download on here. Also, you can try google.

i tried to do the roll-back method.
my experience is that ms will update to the latest wmp-10 when you try to do the individualization.

also with that the latest drm2wmv doestn't work (no error just returns to the command line without doing anything)

i used the latest drmdbg (it crashes wmp about 50% of the time).
then i use an older versioin of drm2wmv. but it seems to quit on long movies. about 13%.

it works on the 1-minute ezdrm.com demos.

I can't even get that far, when I try to rollback WMP11 it says that the roll back is complete but WMP 11 and runtime 11 is still listed in the add remove programs list.

Thanks alot for that post, I read the whole entire link, and then just used the shortcuts that he listed, it pulled up a box that went through the uninstall.

It asked a question about not being about to delete system file, I had to skip two files, then I did the 2nd shortcut and restarted, then WMP was gone (at last) from the add remove programs.

I uninstalled wmp11 runtime, restart, it didn't roll back to anything though, then installed, wmp11 beta, went to the ibx microsoft site with wmp beta still pressed the update button then closed wmp. Bad move, a wmp box came up saying "cancelling subscribtion rights", after that, I couldn't dowload anything using urge, it said that everything as not ava for download. I repeated the process without having wmp up while doing the update and it worked. yeah, thanks.

Okay, now that I have WMP with fairuse working, my Zune program will not work, it's not listed under add/remove programs, so when I try to install it it says error: "restart computer and try again". I tried that no go, deleted everything from program files, and I'm going to try again once I get home from work, once I get this working I'm never doing anything to that computer again. haha

I just got a trial subscription to Napster. I can't convert any of the wma files to mp3. I heard about FairUse4wm and found it. I can't get it to work. I see posts hear with the same problem. Can you tell me where to look to find answers on how I can get it to work? I have no idea what some of the things you guys are talking about with this drm stuff.

Thanks Mick

i've been out of the loop for a while, thinking this program died.

I currently am running vista x64, and zune with zune software. and paying for the music rental.

However, I prefer some napster, since imho it has more music.

if I set up a vm, running win xp in it, can I strip drm from napster files again?

I used to do this, but that was when I was running wmp10 (or whatever one is the 'old' version now).

Campermick: Please only use this program to remove DRM from tracks you own (not from subscriptions, and especially not from trials).

That said, if you choose to purchase the tracks, follow these steps:
-UnDRM the songs using FairUse4WM (see earlier in the thread for how to do this, but it should be pretty much self-explainatory)
-Convert the unprotected versions of the songs you own into mp3s using various conversion methods found throughout the internet.

protected wma can only be edited trivially (metadata, etc). You cannot convert it to another format or edit the waveform itself, or use it in many different ways.

So please, purchase the track. Don't abuse subscription services, and especially don't abuse the trial.

opfreak: yes, it is possible. Setup a virtual machine, undrm the files in the vm, and then drag them to your vista machine. (but again, keep it fair use).

derfnoslen: check your pm

Thanks for the reply. I will search the thread. I am new to all of this. I have the subscription to Napster so I assume that all that I download is mine. I am realizing that this may not be the case. I contacted them first about not being able to convert wma to mp3. Their suggestion was to burn to a cd then rip the cd into mp3 format. I use Nero and Nero won't burn the songs.

I have the subscription to Napster so I assume that all that I download is mine.

This assumption is incorrect. If you are on a subscription plan you do not "own" anything at all. You cease to be allowed to play the songs as soon as your subscription terminates.

what do you do with the .key file that is created with drmdbg?

Wilbert
3rd July 2007, 18:01
1) open drmdbg. WMP will pop up. open the file to decrypt. WMP will contact the server and check the lic. drmdbg will then automatically put a folder named DRM on the desktop which includes a file named drm2-i.key. you need to copy this into the drm2 folder inside the drm2wmv install directory.

2) now feed drm2wmv the WM file in question (e.g. simply drop it there) and it will be decrypted. wait until the process is over and the DOS window closes.

a new file is created without DRM.

I must be doing something wrong. O.o That or in the interim since the last post Microsoft has 'fixed' things again. I run DecryptIt, it starts to load, WMP crashs, restarts, crashs, restarts, etc and at no point is the /DRM folder gets created on the Desktop. I tried the Automatic unDRM option and same thing, it doesn't unlock the encrypted file. :P I know the older 1.3 version and it tells me it is IBX version 11. So... This is a Windows XP Sp2 system. Help? How do I get the DRM off of these two clips? Thanks!

Does FU4 remove drm fromn subscription-based music, if you are a current subsciber?
I just want to get tunes on my mp3 player which doesnt play sub-based music.
I tried FU4 heres what it did:

it asked me to open a song.
I did this, then it plays in wmp (11) and FU4 seems to temporarilit lock up.
When I close wmp fu4 then says something about an error 9000.
I've searched through this thread but cant fiond anything on yahoo-music-to-go

Thanks for any help

What version should drm2wmv be? I got the key file placed as described but drm2wmv does not appear to do anything. It runs with no error messages but does not produce any files. I have a file with 30208 bytes and 2/4/2005 date. When it runs it says it is version 1.241 by taku.

I can't get it to work at all. I get the first screen and the only button available is: recover keys. I press that and it does it's thing and gives me errors. I tried the drmdbg_19062007 and it brings up media player. I select a ffile and a dos screen comes up but remains blank. The dos screen disappears but there is no file on my desktop or in my main directory. I was wondering. I am due for a reformat. If I reformat and instead of win xp I put win 2000 on, would this help? If not I am putting Xp 2 on with no updates. I will then put the tools offered here on and see what happens. Thanks,

Mick

And I think Salsimp updated the link. Oddly, I was looking at that very post just before I checked back here. Unfortunately, that didn't work either. Morning,

I misunderstood. I thought you were trying to find out where WMP might be hidden. If you delete and empty recycle bin- RP(restore points) still have the program. DEP ( I believe) protects system apps . Thats why ones WMP may pop back up, unexpectedly.

In reverse, WMP 9 , WMP10 is still on XP with WMP 11. Just have to find it.

Luckily though, it seems we can still use 11.0.6 for a while with Divine's new fix, thus keeping us safe for now.

Where_art: Try looking at this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=127943)(mentioned just a few posts above yours). You should be able to download Windows Media Player from Microsoft's website and use FairUse with no hassle.

Yeah...it made Fox News also. Time for Divine to go into hiding...

I've known about the key thing for some time now. If you have valid keys already imported into Fairuse4WM, it will still work even though you upgrade to the latest version of WMP or even upgrade to Vista (I've done both). Fairuse4WM will continue to work as long as your media doesn't get rekeyed. Divine's program apparently just imports the new keys into Fairuse4WM's database so it can continue to work as content gets rekeyed or if you d/l new content with new keys (unlike the Fox News article that says that the "newest version" of fairuse4wm has been released unless I missed version 1.4 somewhere...).

Yeah. For instance, some music services will use your BOX keys for several months so if you successfully import them into fairuse4wm before upgrading, then you can continue using fairuse4wm indefinitely regardless of whether or not you upgrade to the latest WMP or Vista (because you've already imported in the old BOX keys based on the old version). However, once your music service forces you to generate a new key (based on the new version of WMP) it will quit working. Same thing goes for buying new music from another service. This new program will extract the new keys and insert them into fairuse4wm's key file, so it should get you working with all new BOX keys.

And DRM like spyware Eats Up A LOT Of My Time and computer resources F***ing with it to get rid of it...

So in result DRM Techs = Spyware that infects most of the worlds population of Computers...

Don't Conform you will regret it...

And if time = Money in the real world then I have earned every piece of media I have Paid For... At leased Twice...

Im with you man
i may not have done as much as you have

For all those wondering if they made the Microsoft download in time, the final WMP and IBX versions that work with this latest 1.3v2 release are:

Windows Media Player (WMP) = 11.0.5721.5146
Individual Blackbox Key (IBX) = 11.0.6000.6324

For all those wondering about Vista...forget it. I have been using Vista Ultimate since it was released, and I am getting problems that haven't been issues since Windows 98. Vista is NOT for the power user, Vista is NOT for someone who likes to customize and exploit the potential of their PC. Right now XP is the best thing for PCs. Vista will not be stable until SP1 or SP2 is released. This is not uncommon for Microsoft...when XP was released in July/August of 2001 it was HORRIBLE, with a captital H! Vista is currently in this stage right now.

As of today, July 18, The best possible setup for FairUse4WM users is Windows XP SP2 and this new FairUse4WM 1.3v2, and WMP 11.0.5721.5146. Forget about Vista, I have converted back to XP after many months of using Vista.

::: milOtis

P.S. - If you are unsure if the download from the microsoft website is the ".5146" version that you need, just extract the EXE to a folder (its bacially just a zip file) then right-click propeties for "setup_wm.exe" and check the verison...if it is 11.0.5721.5146, then you are good to go. In fact, I just completely removed everything...WMP, Urge, even Windows MEdia Player checkbox from Control Panel/Windows Compnents, to make sure I would have a full clean install of WMP. I also deleted everything in the DRM folder under "All Users", and now everything works great all updated. I would recommend doing it that way so you don't have any possible overlapping file versions.

-edit- ADDITION:
How to check IBX version on XP:

Go to the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\
Right-click on "IndivBox.key" and click the "Version" tab
If it says "File Version: 11.0.6000.6324" you did everything right

Note: If you do not see the DRM folder, you need to click "Tools", "Folder Options", and then the "View" tab, click the "Show hidden files..." bubble, and uncheck the two "Hide..." boxes beneath it. Then click "Apply", "OK"

((FYI - To reindividualize, you dont have to go to the MS individualize site...just play a new download in WMP, it will automatically make new IBX files.))

To whom it may concern,
my system: Windows XP SP2, WMP10, Napster subscriber
I have read about the problems with wmp11 and FU4.
Beneath how I´ve solved the problem.
1. Install WIN XP home and SP 2 with WMP10, no automatic updates by windows.
2. Install Fairuse4wm13 fix and Napster
3. Download a Napster Music file
4. Play the file with WMP10 (report "Aquiring license")
5. Download from
www.ezdrm.com/demos
examples free.

6. Start fairuse4wm and search for keys. In my case I´ve found 15 keys. Now you can remove DRM from all music files downloaded by Napster.
Anybody who will change the .wma format to .mp3, .ogg or .wav can download a trial version of wma advanced workshop beneath

bigmurph,

yeah, you cant just upgrade over what you got now in some cases...you have to go to control panel, remove everything from windows components as well having to do with media player and do a clean install with wmp11 final. this means you will need to UNdrm any of your current files that are protected, because you will be given new licenses when you reintall this latest WMP and napster that Fix2 DOES work with

dont update, clean it out, and install fresh. that way you are guaranteed to have not only fresh IBX licenses that the new FairUse works with, but also all correct WMP file versions of ddl's etc...

hey milotis,

when i rolled back, i used one of your guides or someone elses on the Doom9 forums. I'm too lazy to search for it, but I think it was the same process you described here. Add/remove programs, then I deleted WMP11 and an additional 3-4 patches that the procedure described. I restarted many times, but I'm not sure if I did it right. At the end I went to the Napster site http://home.cfl.rr.com/privftp/?D=D and used Auto DRM-reset (which may have been stupid, but Fairuse wasn't working and my songs weren't playing either at that time-before FIX2 and mirakagi). I might try to do it again, but don't have time now. I would really like to be able to do this - and I thought I would have success like others (who are actually using WMP11 without rollback!) - without having to reformat XP. I have 1000+ songs right now and it would be a pain in the ass to go back and download them all again from Napster and then UNdrm them after a fresh install of windowsXP. ANy advice/links?

Thanks

Now I also bought 2 tv shows off unbox and used the same method as above, but this time the resulting video on the other pc is green and purple. you can see everything just fine, just it has those colors. anyone know how i can fix this, as it looks like some drm? is still in there. yes, i posted that while i was still downloading and installing Rhapsody...it is just as good as URGE! Unlimited downloads, still in WMA format :) Granted, the interface bites and isn't as easy to browse and find songs, but I can live with that. Fairuse4wm still works too. i was worried because when it installed it said "updating digital rights management", and i was like "Darn", but then when i downloaded a whole album, and fairuse4wm still worked, i was happy.

oh, plus...it is FREE for current Urge subscribers until 2008 :) i was paying $10 month to month, and now dont have to pay anything for 5 months :)

-edit-
DOWNSIDE: files are now 160kbps downloads instead of 192kbps
and
URGE music not available for download through Rhapsody...URGE has 75% more music than Rhapsody including all the normal studio CDs, but also DJ remixes, single cd releases, artist imports, etc...Rhapsody has none of these

Should FU4W disable this and make the video playable?
The v1.3 I just downloaded, when run on one of the videos, quickly says that I don't own rights to the video!!
Not very helpful!

I am doing it right or is there another way to overcome this block on my fun!

You actually have to have the rights to view or listen to the file BEFORE you use Fairuse4WM. If it's asking for a password you may not have the rights to view that file. FU4W doesn't disable the fact that you don't have access to the file, via not paying for a subscription, etc. It just takes the drm off of it. So you will need to be able to play the video before you can even use FU4WM.

you updated to a new version of media player, thus a new version of IBX...the IBX is based on your media player version, so you cannot go back an undo it anymore. you would need to redownload the file under your new updated DRM setup, then you will be able to remove DRM.

you also need to run the first step of fairuse4wm again...when it opens, click back, and recquire keys. if you are using the new fairuse4wm 1.3 fix2, then then use the secondary program to reaquire keys. you have to do that since you updated.

look, you can only use FairUse4WM on files YOU have downloaded on your computer (and only before you update)...you can NEVER remove DRM from a file that another computer downloaded, and you can't remove DRM rom files downloaded before you last ran updates.

You will NOT get any errors if you are running FairUse4WM on files you yourself downloaded, and havent updated snce you downloaded. You are obviously trying to remove DRM from a porn file you did not download -or- downloaded before you updated last (thus the old drm licenses are gone)...you cannot "make" a file licensed to you if it is on your computer and not licensed...you have to redownload it on your current system.

try reading the last 50pages before asking a simple question about how to use fairuse4wm, please!

I posted on here a little while ago about 2 pages back... I am getting "Requires a different private key," still, after running mirakaji. Does anyone know the last IBX key or whatever that this mirakaji and Fix2 will work with.

I am suspecting nobody knows the answer to this problem yet, but I have seen a similar problem on other theads. On the other hand, other users seem to have had success with this key 11.0.6000.6324 using this method. I am unsure how to proceed, so I guess I will just wait it out for another patch (unlikely).

I just don't really want to reformat my computer right now (to rollback to WMP10) because I have +1000 files saved from Napster that I would have liked to remove DRM from and would rather not re-download all my files if not necessary. I would be glad if someone could suggest something to me. The rollback method I used previously did not work:

Is there something else I should do? Should I try this again and then do Mirakaji?

i can't help you with your problems...i just today updated a computer that had an old wmp11 beta to wmp11 final (current from MS website) then ran fairuse4wm and the mirakaji thing, and have already downloaded and removed the DRM from over 100 new files.

i have found that people who are getting the 'different private key' error, are trying to remove DRM on files they downloaded before they updated, which obviously will not work since your IBX is different after your update WMP

i would suggest you redownload the latest media player, install it, and then redownload the original DRM file again, and try fairuse4wm fix2 after that...because FairUse4WM 1.3 FIX2 is WORKING with the latest Windows Media Player download/updates

PLEASE...If you have a question, READ this entire thread, or at least search it for your issue....there is NOTHING you can come up with, any POSSIBLE of error, that we all haven't already run into and dealt with! PLEASE READ!

I posted this Q as a new thread in General Decrypting http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=129351

neuron2 suggested that I post in this thread.

I have some instructional videos on an old computer (Win XP/WMP 10) in ASF format. They are protected by MS Media Player DRM. The company that I purchased the videos from no longer exists.

I want to move these files to my new computers (XP WMP 10 or 11).

When I try to open them on the new computer I get a message that I need a license to play these files and then a blank browser (page can not be found) window opens since the company no longer exists.

I have also tried backup/restore of license files to new computer but get a message that I have exceeded my restores for that day (I get the message every day and have been trying for a few weeks).

I have tried the new 'fixed' version of Fairuse4wm but get an error message 'wrong private key'

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

you will NOT be able to undrm those files. ASX/ASF files used to use a different DRM method than IBX which is no longer used in WMV files.

your best bet is to install a video card with S-Video output, and play the files full screen on the old computer, and output them to another capturing device, whether that be a DVD recorder, VHS player, another computer with video-inputs, or whatever u might have.

you have too much working against you...OLD files, company out of business, on an old computer, AND in ASF format...trust me, don't lose sleep over this, export them and capture them via an analog video card.

Ok Homer try this if you still have your old computer use the fairuse4wm1.3 fix 2 and remove the drm before you trash the old dino...

If the old computer dose not have the files on it transfer them back to the old computer and then use what i just said...

If you can not then its hopeless as milOtis has stated and just do a direct video transfer threw an analog cable...

cool thanks, i will use this utility...but is there one out there that can constantly monitor a certain folder, and when a protected file is downloaded, it automatically tells fairuse4wm to remove DRM, then deletes the old file?

i am fine with WMA format, every music player on the market can play WMA files (except crappy ipods), even my card MP3/WMA cd player can play them, so i dont need the mp3 convert option, but it would be nice for downloaded DRM files to be autostripped, then have the original protected copy auto-deleted.

Homer J. Simpson: Try SDP Downloader. You put in the mms (or URL) of the file you're trying to download, and it'll pull it from the web. A very useful tool, and open source, I believe.

YourNameHere: I ran the tool (with conversion disabled), and I think it started going through my entire collection. I stopped it before it got too far, but can you tell us what exactly it does? Is there a way to control which songs get converted, where they go, etc? If not, I think I'll just stick with FairUseCommander (though yes, I wish it did have an extension to convert...)

YourNameHere
31st August 2007, 06:07
The tool passes the input dir to fairuse4wm. Fairuse then scans the dir and all subdir looking for drm'd files, stripping the drm'd files and skipping the non-drm'd. The tool then deletes the source drm'd files and renames the stripped files to the original drm'd filename (so you dont end up with a drm'd file and a non-drm'd file, who needs both?).

If you choose to convert to mp3, the tool converts all wma's in the input dir and subdirs to mp3 and outputs them to the specified output dir rebuilding the dir structure. If an mp3 already exists, it is skipped and not "reconverted".

Just give it a try on a dir that only has a few drm'd files in it and see the results for yourself. Once you understand how it works, it is very handy.

I have an iPod so it is handy. I can run it on a "My Music" dir full of drm'd files and end up with a "My Music - MP3" dir full of MP3s complete with tags and original directory structure. As I add more drm'd music to "My Music" I just run the tool again and it strips and converts any files that are new since last time I ran it.

YourNameHere... I think it works nicely, but besides from the auto mp3 conversion, what does it have that FairUseCommander doesn't?

Is it possible to implement a table, the way FairUseCommander does? It'd help so that I don't convert files I don't want...

Thanks though.... (any chance in open-sourcing it? I'd like to take a crack at the code)

What's the mechanism for converting to MP3 files? How is it doing that? Is it a bit-for-bit conversion and is any quality lost? Seems to convert quickly...and it can change the bit rate on the fly?????

Also, seem like for some reason WMAUtility wants to close Firefox when it converts???? Did it twice (XP machine), hung the first time, then w/o Firefox it ran fine...

It uses lame for the mp3 encoding. It encodes CBR at the bitrate you select from the drop-down, I normally use 192k since that is what my source wma files are encoded at and it keeps them at roughly the same file size.

Not sure about the closing firefox windows. Weird though.

But you know that encoding from one lossless format into another results in great quality loss, do you? Better choose a higher bitrate to not loose too much. And why in hell CBR, VBR offers better quality at a smaller filesize than CBR.

Freeme2 - freeware open source software to remove DRM protection from Windows Media .WMA audio files.

I have successfully undrmed wma file under IndivBox.key version 11.59-something (don't remember exact version ). So the main conclusion is that the software works. It extracts correct SIDs and it's able to undrm wma files using it. The main problem is why it doesn't work with wmv files (it says something about packet_lenght). It's the same issue as with the original freeme.

I will try disassembling drm2wmv which is able to handle both wma and wmv files and he is pretty sure it is also freeme based. But if someone knows a fix to freeme (as a result also to freeme2) to make it work with wmv please post here, at stream-recorder.com (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1770&page=3) or PM me.

Subj: movies with limited day licenses can be cracked

To whom it may concern, I didn't have time to read through this whole forum to see if this is already here, but here is what I discovered about files with expiration dates. To save money you can take advantage of the 7-day license options and still crack the file with fairuse.

Here's how it worked for me, when the splash screen to play the file comes up after the license was obtained, I didn't press play, just idled on the splash screen, then went to fairuse and it did it. When I first tried it, the unDRM didn't work after I pressed play, only discovered that it did when left on the splash screen where it says you are licensed and can now play it, but don't press play yet.

Also, sometimes to get the license to play the file you paid for you have to be logged into the download webpage on your browser. If the file is already downloaded and it still won't revalidate, click on the webpage to start opening the file, then click on the one you already downloaded, the license should verify this time now that the portal has been opened up, then click to cancel the other window opening the file. Hope this is useful.

@jetfire4:
Please note that while removing DRM for the sake of watching your movie on different players does fall under fait use conditions, keeping it after it expires doesn't, is illegal and is absolutely discouraged. After it expires you should delete all copies of the unprotected movie. The fact that similar/same technologies are applied for fair use situations is irrelevant. Please keep it on the legal side. Thank you.

Hi,
I reformatted my laptop and fairuse4wm works fine on the sample file in the downloaded "Cool Stuff" folder.
Mirakagi and the fairuse4wm 1.3fix-2 work perfectly.

The problem is when I install the latest Rhapsody set up, it changes the IBX file in the DRM folder to the latest one by "calling home" to MS. Then nothing works.
I have Rhapsody v4.0 build 1.193 on my desktop which works with fairuse4wm
Rhapsody set up installs build 2.25 which changes the IBX file.
I had a copy of Rhapsody 3.1 setup and it stops and says that I have to install a mandatory update, which of course is the latest version which updates the IBX file.

I have searched the net and can't find an older 4.0x installer.
Does anyone happen to have a Rhapsody 4.0 build 1.193 set up?

Please PM me if you do.
In the mean time if Rhapsody is working for you, don't upgrade.

WARNING

If you are presently able to use fairuse4wm with Rhapsody.....Do not upgrade Rhapsody.

If you upgrade, the installer will not let you proceed until Microsoft installs the latest IBX file in your DRM folder.
If you try to back out, and cancel the upgrade, you will not be able to run your previous version of Rhapsody. You will get the setup page you cancelled out of.

If you reinstall WMP 10 or 11beta 2, it will change your IBX file to a usable one but when you try to start Rhapsody it will tell you that it is installed incorrectly and you have to do it all over again and get the changed IBX file.
I was able to go back with System Restore and paste in an older version of Rhapsody from another computer.

Not entirely. If you have XP you can uninstall WMP, install version 10.00.00.3646, delete your DRM directory, and individualize your install. At this point, FU4WM will work again, albeit an older version 10.

I haven't found any way of then upgrading to version 11 without being infected with the new IBX version in the process. If your running Vista, I believe youre pretty much screwed until a someone distributes a fix to the new IBX version.

HI there!

I've got a strange situation with FU4WM...
I have an WMV file with DRM protection, I have the latest FU4WM - but nothing happened when I tried to remove the protection. Yes, I have the Licence for that file!
I got the message:

1 files converted
0 errors
0 warnings

But the process was just a few seconds long and the file what I found in the destination folder is just 7075 bytes long. I opened with an editor, I think that just the header of the WMV file.
What is the problem?
The original filesize is more than 1 Gib. I cutted the file at 500 MiB, 300 MiB but the results are same like before.

My WMP is v10.00.00.3646 english version
FU4WM version is 1.3 fix-2
Filesize is 1.228.566.391 bytes
Created filesize is 7075 bytes
My IndivBox.key version is 11.0.5497.6285
(How can I change this file to an earlier version?)

Earlier I removed many DRM protection from more than a hundred files (FIFA World Cup HighLights) without any problem.

If you have any hint just tell me, please!

And: I am sorry for my english knowledge!

Cheers! Jack

2. Disable Application Compatibility - This won't work if you dont!

A. Click Start, type "gpedit.msc" in the Start Search bar, press enter.

B. Expand "Administrative Templates", then expand "Windows Components",
find "Application Compatibility" (2nd one under Windows Components).

C. Double click "Remove Program Compatibility Property Page", Select enable,
then click "Next Setting" at the bottom.

D. Repeat Untill all settings are enabled.

3. Download Windows Media Player 10 With auto batch installer! - Created by me!
A. Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/28846725/321.rar.html

B. Extract the archive and right click on "Install.bat", click edit. Then click
Edit > Replace, Find what: Bobby | Replace with: *Your Vista User Name!*,
click replace all, save and exit.

C. Then run the included batch file "Install.bat"! (This is all automated,
if it askes you if you want to overwrite something, then the file is being used
by another process and cant be accessed, if it does happen, exit, make sure
you are in safe mode and that no other programs are running and run the
Install.bat again)

D. Follow the WMP10 installer instructions. (If it says wmp10 is already installed,
browse to \program files (x86)\Windows Media Player\ and run wmplayer.exe, and if
that tells you file xxxx is version 10.xx, expecting version 11.xx, arrange icons by name,
select all the .inf files, right click > install, one wont work, it will tell you and the
rest will continue, after that run \program files (x86)\Windows Media Player\setup_wm.exe)

4. Security component upgrade
A. Visit (IE ONLY): http://services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.com/indivSite/en/indivit.asp

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm using Vista x64 and the WMP that comes with that (so 11.something). When I try to run FairUse4WM and hit Recover Keys it says "IBX components do not appear to be present."

Also FreeMe2 doesn't work unfortunately. I double click on it and it just comes up with a command prompt saying "hit enter to acknowledge error."

I recently heard of AnalogWhole but that doesn't work either lol. It won't recognize a recording device, it let's me choose CD Player or Master Volume during setup, but not Stereo Mix, so it only records static noise.

Exception c0000005 caught during file "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM\cache\Indiv01.key".
It is finished.

Then if I run FairUse1.3 Fix 2 I get the "different private key" message. If I try to recover keys again in FairUse, it gets to "please wait" and then freezes.

One other piece of info: I was able to successfully unDRM songs from Ruckus just a week or two ago, but for some reason Ruckus updated its drm a second time within an hour. Regardless, it says it's still only drm version 11.0.5721.5145, security version 2.9.0.1. I deleted the drm folder and re-updated the drm. Same problem. Any help?

Here's a VERY EASY solution to get fairuse working, at least for non-vista users:

(1) Roll back WMP to Version 10 (go to add/remove programs). Get through everything, and restart your computer.

(2) This is the key step that makes rolling back actually work. Go to add/remove programs again and UNINSTALL WINDOWS MEDIA RUNTIME 11. This sneaky bitch is what lingers after the previous uninstall and makes your life suck.

(3) Delete the DRM folder.

(4) Run your media download program and have fun with FairUse again!

Thank you.

You're walking on a thin line here gents. Take notice.
