View Full Version : DVDLab refuses to author: error report on muxing stage

I'm trying to make a DVD out of some home videos. When I load all the assets in DVDLab it doesn't show me any significant error messages:

When trying to compile the DVD, however, it gives me this message:

Shouldn't I have been getting such an error at the asset loading stage? What can I do without having to reencode anything again?

Did you follow the first suggestion - to simply demultiplex?

Video and audio were loaded separately:

[edit] Oh crap, I only now noticed that it reported the soundtracks as 8:46 instead of 8:45. Do you think that might be the cause?

No
--------
Audio-Surround.AC3 --> 640 Kbps
From the DVD spec AC3 is allowed from 96 to 448 Kbps
Although there are commercial DVDs using 640 Kbps AC3 (e.g Pink Floyd - Pulse) it is out of DVD Video specifications (you will find a note about this possible incompatibility on such a DVD).
DVD Lab is not capable to mux 640 Kbps AC3 so you have to reduce bitrate to 448 Kbps.

Are you sure that the DVD specs (and not the Dolby specs) call for that? And even if they did, could that be the cause? After all, stereo AC3 tracks aren't supposed to go over 192kbps and I've seen commercial DVDs with up to 384kbps stereo tracks.
If this is indeed the case, are there any ways to circumvent it and force DVDLab to author the disc?

Does not matter stereo or more channels, 448 kbps is the limit (stereo can go up to 448 kbps too)
e.g Lab and Maestro can not, Scenarist and Muxman can mux 640 kbps AC3 tracks
you can mux with muxman and attach an external VTS in Dvdlab

Thing is, I have a whole DVDLab Project already made, how would I go about implementing your suggestion while keeping all the work I did this far?
P.S: does the Pro version support 640kbps AC3? If so, I might upgrade to it if it doesn't cost too much.

Just tested
Pro 1.6 cant mux 640 AC3 ... but Pro 2.0 will do the job and there is a fully functional 30 day trial so you can do it without any cost.

Awesome, I'll try the Pro 2.0 trial version. One thing though, if DVDLab couldn't mux a 640kbps AC3 file, why wasn't I given an error message when loading it in the "Assets" bin?
