Hello!
Today, there are so many Dolby Digital-Encoders out there (i.e. Sonic Foundry Soft Encode or Sonic Audio Transcode, which ships with Scenarist), so I wonder why DVD-RB Pro does not yet offer the feature to reencode the audio of a DVD.
If you reduce two audio-streams from 448 kbps to 320 kbps you'll save 256 kbps!
Increasing the video-bandwidth by 256 kbps should give a better quality, especially if the video-bandwidth is below 3 mbps.

I recall jdobbs discussing this as a possible feature, it could be this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=112599), but I don't think that is the one I am thinking of.

Hmmm on a video, 256kbps wouldn't make a big diff, except if the bitrate was extremely low. Look around and you'll notice no solution ever trancoded the audio, the reason is the low gain. Moreover most of the time, you have a 5.1 stream + a stereo, which would you transcode?! It's easier just to remove the stereo......
That's why I'm not sure it worth the pain for this gain! Just my 2 cents....

Except in the case of LPCM audio tracks. Where we could re-encode to an AC3 track. I've tried doing it by hand using a "guide" I found in this forum. But, as the DVD I use as a test was an ILVU one, I got into a lot of problems, and couldn't do it....
Not a very important feature, I guess. Afterall, in more than 200 backups, that's the only DVD I own that isn't properly backed up yet. But it would be a very nice addition to this wonderful program.
