Hi there,

I'm re-encoding some of my movies with hard subs.

Now when I try to output a movie in .avi with TMPGEnc, I can easily choose Video Settings > Xvid, no problem. When I choose Audio Settings there is a MPEG Layer-3 format to choose, but the quality only goes up to 56 Kbit/s 24,000 Hz Stereo.

What is required to encode in higher quality?

Thank you.

U should use LAME for MP3 encoding instead of TMPGEncīs given ACM.

EDIT:clarification.

l3codeca.acm only supports up to 56kbps 24khz, that is the version that comes with windows xp.

You need l3codecp.acm (the pro version), you can get it by extracting the wmp10 installer, or by finding the old radium hack. You should also be able to use the lame acm codec (you can get it from rarewares.org).

I agree it is better to encode with lame.exe and then mux the audio in. Also, try not to use VBR mp3 in avi, it is best to use CBR in avi.
