i have a problem when splitting files in Virutal Dub!!

I did the whole process in Gordian Knot and create a 1.21gb file. Now wherever I split and play back the video, the video is juttery. It stops pauses for 2 secs plays for 0.30sec then pauses again. It's completely screwed. The full file is fine, no sync problem, no freezing, just perfect playback. I tried NanDub to no avail. I reinstalled the codecs and even did this on a new operating system but its the same story. I checked the audio interleaving settings and the other video/audio stuff but just can't get this working!

thanks in advance for any response.

How are you splitting it? I remember trying to split it one way and i got the same problem as you. But then i did it another way and it was fine. What i did: I just 'highlighted' the first half of the movie (by pressing home at the start, and end when i wanted the first half to stop), then i pressed 'save avi' (making sure everything is in direct stream copy), then i did the same for the second half.

oh and make sure you cut on keyframes.

i've tried all that. i always move by key frame so that shouldn't be a problem.

i'll be sure to do it again, JUST TO MAKE SURE, and i'll let ya know!

nothing worked so i tried another way.

i exported the audio in virtual dub decompressed it to a wav then recomressed it as 160kb constant bitrate mp3. i took note of the exact time displayed where my cut was in Virtual Dub and cut the file in a wave editor at the exact point.

when i joined the newly split audio and video in nandub, the picture and sound was perfect with no sync problems. so i guess in future i'll stick to a constant bitrate and do it manually for splitting. it took a little longer but who cares!
