View Full Version : DVD-RB Forgetful?

Great program! I finally tired of doing things the "manly way," DVD2AVI, VFAPI conversion, Chapter Extractor, CCE, Pulldown, DVD Maestro... Yeah, I know, wake up and join the rest of the world.

My rig is having real Alzheimer's though. It seems everytime I start DVD-RB (0.97) I have to tell it where CCE is, exit and restart DVD-RB! It got a bit absurd last night as I started a nice batch project and the first backup started CCE with no problem. When I woke up this morning, the first movie had completed but the project was hung on movie two with the "Can't find CCE, please reset in Settings" error message!!??? My wife's comment was that it all seemed fine to her since I always forget things that I had just done...

BTW, using CCE SP 2.5 with EclCCE. CCE SP 2.64 did the same thing.

The INI file seems fine now (started a job). Next time I get the error message I'll recheck that. Anything else I can try?

Once I get this licked I'm going for Pro.

Thanks,
Zep

mmmm... that's real odd one :)

I never saw/heard anything like that!
Is it possible that you have an application that may be (somehow) blocking Rebuilder's access to its rebuilder.ini file?

If you say that the info on the ini file is correct, I can't imagine what can be wrong, except some kind of antivirus, anti-spyware, etc that is being "extremely inteligent"

edit: I don't know about this... just a clue... maybe jdobbs can answer this... maybe your OS got corrupted somewhere and somehow that Windows API routines aren't workinf as they should.

Project I was running did complete. This had the "correct" INI file as I mentioned in my last post.

I'll try again tonight and if I get the error message, I'll try turning off the firewall (Norton Internet Security), antivirus (Norton Antivirus) and antispyware (Spyware Doctor). The latter is problematic with a few apps so that wouldn't be too big a surprise.

However, your OS comment may be right on too. My XP Pro has a few bolluxed up files. Is there any way to test your API hypothesis? I was actually thinking of writing a BAT file to copy a "good" INI file prior to DVD-RB starting...

I have a "reload" on the "to do" list, but the thought of spending days on this has got me turned off.

The INI file is the only place that information is stored. So if it is being "forgotten" the most likely cause of the problem is lack of access to the REBUILDER.INI. The program needs read/write access to directory in which it is installed.

There are lots of other settings saved there as well...

In batch mode does the program rejig the INI files between movies? That's the part that has me really confused.

In last night's run...

1. Tried a single movie run and got the can't find CCE error message.

2. Retold through setup where CCE was. Now let me specify that Setup did HAVE the location when I opened it so I was puzzled. Anyway, I repointed it to the same location, closed setup and closed DVD-RB

3. Started DVD-RB and went into single movie mode. Program worked fine and I aborted when CCE opened.

4. Closed program, re-opended and checked setup which had the location for CCE correct. Put 4 movies in queue and started batch mode. When I visited the computer later, it was happily CCEing the first movie. Called it a night and went to bed.

5. Got up this morning figuring on 4 finished movies and lo and behold, the first one was finished but DVD-RB was hung up on Movie 2 with the "where did CCE go" error message.

At face value, none of this makes much sense to me so I'm looking for some guidance, please.

When in batch mode each job loads settings (into the INI) that were saved in Project files. But when the batch job is ended, the settings are returned to what they were before the batch started.

If, however, you load a Project file from the File menu... the settings in the Project file replace those in the INI.

OK, now I've got the scenario...

If I remember correctly here's my sequence of events.

1. Made all project files PRIOR to working out CCE location.

2. Tried running Movie 1 in single mode, didn't work because DVD-RB couldn't find CCE. Fixed that and saved project file with CCE location in.

3. Started 4-movie batch run and only Movie 1 had proper CCE location.

4. Movie 1 worked, and it puked on Movie 2 since CCE location was not there.

Will verify tonight.

THANKS,
