View Full Version : 2 different matrix or more for 1 movie?

Hi! :)

I'm using DVD-RB v1.10.3 and CCE SP 2.70.2.10 Trial.
My question is about advanced settings and if I should use
two different matrix or more, one for "Main Feature Matrix"
and one for "Low Bitrate Matrix" and perhaps another for
"Very Low Bitrate Matrix"?

Reading the high/low/typical bitrates from the example below it
would be for "Main Feature Matrix" the "1-High_High[4000+]"
and for "Low Bitrate Matrix" it would be "8-Low_Low[1800-]"
and for "Very Low Bitrate Matrix" I have no idea what to use?

Or am I fine with using only "1-High_High[4000+]" matrix?

Is it OK or is it bad to use the default settings in CCE? Do I really
need to change any settings at all in CCE? Just use the standard
matrix that is set by default in CCE? Is DVD-RB overriding settings
in CCE, settings like "1-pass CBR" or "Multipass VBR" etc. or am I OK
just using the "Standard Template" in CCE?

====================================================
Example from DVD-RB log and "Inside Man" movie only:
5,83 GB (6 262 132 736 byte)
====================================================
- DVD-RB v1.10.3
- CCE 2.70.2.10 encoder selected.
- "Movie Only" mode is enabled.
- VTS_01: 3 057 593 sectors.
-- Scanning and writing .D2V & .AVS files
-- Processed 185 046 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 72,1%
- Overall Bitrate : 4 559Kbs
- Space for Video : 4 119 678KB
- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 4 830/1 229/4 559 Kbs

If anyone has the time to answer all these questions I'd be very happy! :)

Thanks... varekai

In most instances you are better off leaving all the settings at their defaults. The default settings were selected because they produce the best results on the widest variety of sources.

The ability to change the settings are for folks who understand a lot about video like to "tinker"...

Hello jdobbs! :)

Thanks for replying!

I'm a DVD-RB newbie and I just love DVD-RB and are trying to learn as much as I can from this great forum.
I really wish you had said something about the advanced settings questions I made because matrixes really
puzzles me! I've done a lot of reading about matrixes but could do with some more guiding, please?
"feedback" got me started and has helped me a lot, thanks "feedback"! :)

Do you mean CCE here? Or DVD-RB? Maybe both? I would love to learn a lot about how to "tinker"!
Of course I could do some more reading on my own and just go trial&error but my experince says me that
there would be a lot of trial and mostly error... I know that there are many experienced and talented people in
here that would know about the things I asked, so... that's why I asked.

I'm perfectly happy with the results I'm getting from DVD-RB and CCE by default settings and my only wish is
to learn more and one day hopefully use DVR-RB at it's optimal and perhaps get even better results than today.

Well... I'll just shut up for now... ;) ...and keep lurking at this great forum!

regards varekai

jdobbs is referring to settings in DVD-RB, and i think you may be thinking about the Template settings in CCE? anyway, just leave the CCE seetings and do all your tinkering directly in DVD-RB
