Hey all,

I'm back with some Q's, I've been asked to author a DVD with alternating Main Menu backgrounds (each time you insert the disk a new background is [should be] shown). At first I thought this could not be done, but I've been told that Godfather Part 1 does this. Any ideas of how to work this. The DVD has usaul Language menu before Warning & Intro and I use DVDMaestro but have access to Scenarist.

Also, I watched the commentary for Ghostbusters the other day, and found that they had the blackouts of the three people doing the commentary overlapping at the bottom of the screen, moving and what. I was wondering how they did this?

I don't have those DVDs but probably they've made X different main menu (for example, 10 main menu) and at the beginning a "Random" value is calculated so it load the selected main menu. In DVDMaestro you can easily do that with the Command Sequences (put the value-1 of the total menu in a GPRM - ie for 10 menu put 9 - and then set a Random instruction on the same GPRM. The GPRM will contain a random value from 0 to 9) then you can set for every "possible main menu" the condition to be displayed (Display menu if -> GPRM value is X else goto Menu Y - where Menu Y will have the same display condition).

The Ghostbusters thing is probably just a video shot of them watching the movie, then turned into subtitles. This is reasonably simple to do, but can be time consuming. Although, I seem to remember looking at this disc and finding out it was just a video edit as another angle. (Could be wrong though).

I haven't really looked at the Ghostbusters DVD. I thought they might have used subtitles, but was unsure, after doesn't a program like Scenarist only allow 3 second subs? Still, doesn't much affect me as I use Maestro.

Cheers mp3dom, I'll have a look at it. Outside of the Karaoke mix thingy, which I think can do random, I wasn't sure.

I've not heard of the 3 second subs in Scenarist before. I've not had any problems with a 1frame sub stream duration. Infact I've done it on a project myself. It's probably best to keep it to a 2frame sub duration as, depending on the image size on the screen, some players have an image buffer issue. The only time you'll have a problem is if there is a highlight aswell, then you'll have to lengthen the duration of the subpicture. :)
