will converting an mp3 file 128kbps,44khz to 320kpbs increse
its quality.i cannot hear much difference between the two files when played in computer.but will it make a difference when play it in my standalone dvd player or car stereo.

will it make a difference when play it in my standalone dvd player or car stereo.Read the docs for the playback unit. Many standalones have a top-end smooth .MP3 playback ability limited to 256Kbps...

Converting lossy audio data to the same lossy format (although of better quality) makes no real sense :eek:
The enhanced information/subtle details which you would like to hear
are missing already as they were removed during MP3 compression.
If you want to get higher quality MP3 file (320kbps compared to 128kbps) you have to encode the SOURCE file again
(WAV/AC3/DTS?, I don't know which one you have), not to re-encode that MP3.

Right, converting lower bitrate to higer can't improve quality only can decrase more with more noise and distorsions.
