Hi
I have a little problem here, I have an avi video, taken with my powershot s3. The size is about 950MB, but it is somehow corrupted. Media player classic says length is about 8s, but in reality it should have about 8mins. I tried to open it with virtualdub, it parsed it through the whole 950MB but when I tried to save it it stored only about 1,5mins, so vdub didn't recognize the whole file only parts. I also tried to open it with gspot, and there it says the right filelength an framecount (8min and about 14000 frames). How can I repair the video, I tried some freeware "avi repair" progs but they didn't really work. Is there any tool to repair an avi, or only extract the frames which are not corrupted ???
I think I need a prog which analyzes every frame of the file and extracts it.
thanks in advance

Do you have the appropriate MJPEG codec installed? According to http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06022111canons3is.asp#specs that camera uses MJPEG for video. Perhaps attempting rendering in GSpot will tell you -- or, failing that, posting the complete output from GSpot here might help.

Hi
I think that is not the problem, I can play the file with media player but it stops after 8s, so the codec can be found.....

Hi!
When you loaded the file into VirtualDub, did you try the following?:
1) Load the .AVI file (DivX-compressed or otherwise) into the most recent version of either VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod
2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
3) Select "Scan videostream for errors"
4) Select "Mask bad frames"
5) Save with a new filename

Hi
Thanks for your post. I tried that, but the problem is, that virtualdub only recognizes 6690 frames of 14000 so it only scans this 6690 frames for errors not the whole 14000....

1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub
2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"
3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

Hmmmm...
It looks like VDub shows ffdshow is being used for mjpeg decoding, while GSpot shows you have an mjpeg codec installed, though it isn't clear which would be used for rendering, as you have no rendering test output from GSpot.
As a test, you might turn off mjpeg decoding in ffdshow -- you'll find it in the ffdshow configuration tool, which should be in your "Start...(All) Programs" Windows menu). Once disabled, your applications should all then use your installed mjpeg codec from Cannon. I recommend this test because this apparent "difference of opinion" might be due to different codecs seeing different things about your file. If there is a problem with ffdshow interpretation of Cannon's mjpeg files, this might clear it up.

Not that this is going to help in any way but, it seems odd that GSpot indicates that the audio is at 48KHz, while VirtualDub indicates that the audio is at 44.1KHz.
Is there any tool to repair an avi, or only extract the frames which are not corrupted ???If you want to save the first (apparently uncorrupted 6,690 frames), load the file into VirtualDub, set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy" and save with a new filename...

You could try AVIMaster (http://www.thozie.de/dnn/AVIMaster.aspx).

Hi
I disabled the ffdshow filter, but I had the same result in vdub, it only finds 6690 frames. Will try avifix when I am at home.
Thanks for you help !

Oooops! my mistake :o
Sorry... wrong name... I was trying to say DivFix.
You should try the old version and seems like there's a new one on the "market"... check it here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=112561
keep it UP

Another note.
Have you tried to demux the streams?

you could use mplayer to repair broken headers and to play the file.

Hi
Sorry for my late post, was a little busy lately....
I tried divfix++ and was able to get 8mins of the video, but the strange thing was, after 3 and 6mins the video starts from the beginning .... I mean, that there are only 3min of the same video all over....
I begin to think that there is really only this 3mins of video in that stream after I've tried that many tools to repair it.
So, I think I have to live with this 3mins of video...
thanks for your help
