View Full Version : [dvd-rb Pro 1.10.3]: a strange error message into rebuilder.log

@jdobbs

When I start the new DVD-RB PRO 1.10.3 (which I did a fresh install), I got the following message into rebuilder.log (placed on C:\ root drive):

- Invalid path in INI file: "C:\Arquivos de programas\DVD-RB PRO\Encoders\ffmpeg\ffmpeg.exe"

but RB didn't install ffmpeg.exe either.:eek:

JFYI. :)

I left some test code (actually a flag) in accidentally (from the iPod module I'm working). I fixed it and uploaded it shortly after the mailing started -- but you must have been one of the handful that downloaded it before that. Anyone downloading after 7:00pm EDT will get the correct file(s).

It won't hurt anything if you continue to use that version... but if you download from the link again the message (and file) will be gone.

Sorry. And here I was hoping nobody would notice... :o

@jdobbs

Dont' worry, jdobbs! This sort of thing happens with any developer and seems that I'm a kinda "bug's hunter" (even when I'm not 'hunting' anything :D ).

Thanks for yours time and efforts to deliver for us this great software.

Hmmmm... iPod module? Could you tell us more, or is it top secret :D

jdobbs
12th August 2006, 12:05
No secret. I'm just adding the ability to output to other formats, the iPod being the main reason.

Do you plan PSP also?! :D I have a PSP! ;)

Yeah. Actually you can set the parameters to pretty much anything you want. I'll look up the specifications for PSP video and create some presets for it as well.

I was going to say it :goodpost:

@jdobbs

I did start a session with RB and AQE to backup "The History of Violence” - (2005)" (R4) and for testing purposes I did choose the OPV mode instead of multipass VBR; but AQE is doing the encoding of segments in multipass mode!! :eek:

It follows the relevant files:

@jdobbs

OK, I redid the backup, disabled the "Enable Menu Encoding" option and I got the same result: OPV mode in AQE isn't engaged when the Encoding phase gets started (instead of Multipass is engaged).

Is it a bug?

JFYI.

The OPV mode is set by the "video_type=" variable in the ECL file. That hasn't changed from earlier versions -- so I have to guess that AQE is acting differently.

Note: For AutoQMatEnc in OPV the value will be set to "video_type=2"

video_type=2 is still OPV. It never changed. Could we have the REBUILDER.ECL, it would be interesting?!(just a link to it or a part of it...)
[EDIT] I was able to reproduce the pb(I just started an OPV encode with AQE). I checked the ECLs which are generated...some are video_type=2 others are video_type=4 (not only the menu). There is definitely something wrong there.(see the attachment it's the REBUILDER.ECL, you will see the mix of OPV and Multipass)

No... what you're seeing is correct. You'll notice that the sections set to "video_type=2" are all all small segments (less than 60 frames) or stills. Here is a quote from the changes to version 0.86. So it's been working that way since April of 2005.

- Again changed the method of encoding for very
small segments. Some reports of CCE CRC errors
make it necessary to create a "workaround". Now
all segments of less than 60 frames are encoded
using one pass VBR in CCE SP versions. Single
frames encoded with CCE Basic are done in CBR.
The Pro version still retains STILLS intact.

Judging by what I see in the ECL, it appears OPV was not selected on the "AutoQMatEnc Options" menu.

[Edit] You may want to check the INI file and see if the flag is on. I'll look in my code and see if I find anything... but it wouldn't have changed in this version...

Ok. I found it.

Interesting. From what I see it means OPV in DVD-RB has never worked for AutoQMatEnc -- hmm... I guess nobody ever noticed before. I've fixed it for the next version.

Great!!! I'm not that surprised....OPV is generally used by people who want something fast. AQE is not fast enough for those people...my thought.

As a matter of fact, I did a bunch of encoding using AQE in OPV mode but when it did 'mimic' CCE SP before you to implement native support to AQE; so, in this context it's true that "OPV in DVD-RB has never worked for AutoQMatEnc", but if I go to this 'old way', for shure that AQE will working in OPV mode (again, with it 'mimicking' the CCE SP).

I'm glad that you will implement this feature in the next release. :)

Another thing which I realized when I made the ILVU tests are the Bias settings: I set it to 20 under AQE settings in RB, but AQE log shows different values, for example:
[Sat Aug 12 19:06:41 2006] - AutoBias : Bias selected : 13

AQE uses AutoBias, so it set it for each segment

Okay, but why do we have a manual bias setting for AQE? ;)

Regards,Yes. They would have worked if you had used it by pointing the CCE SP path to AQE. It's only since AQE was added as an option that the OPV wasn't working. The condition telling the ECL generator routine to use OPV was just never added for AQE mode. The only time you'd see it after that would be for the "small segment" exception.

Even after the AQE option was added the encodes still would have worked -- but the output would be generated by multipass encoding -- kinda' defeating the purpose of OPV.

There is still a manual way, set it negative and the chosen value will be what is set (without the - of course)

@SAPSTAR

Maybe a misunderstanding, I don't want to force AQE to use a special bias setting, I'm pretty sure it works well the way it does. :)

http://www.rippraff.de/Pics/AQE_settings.png

So the bias settings will be ignored anyway and you can't enter negative values because you have only a slider.
Wouldn't it be better to remove this slider completely?

What about quality precision, has this setting an effect or will it be ignored too?

I know I've mentioned this before... it seems it would make more sense to read the ECL in the same way CCE does since it is using the CCE ECL format (meaning positive values set the bias). This kinda' makes it incompatible, doesn't it?

Has it always worked this way?

I can change the slider so it feeds negative values to AQE... but I guess I just don't understand the logic.

Beside the logic that would mean you would always use manual bias settings, which isn't SAPSTARs aim, i guess. ;)

Hmm...

@SAPSTAR

Automatic Bias the preferred setting I assume? I can always add an "Automatic Bias" checkbox.

Yep. In fact, my idea with AQE is to make it as much automatic as possible in order to allow Mr Everybody to achieve some quality encodes without knowing a thing about MPEG2. That's why the Bias is by default automatic....But I suppose a checkmark + slider should allow people to set their own Bias.
