a file i am editing has PCM uncompressed audio and huffyuv video. i load it into virtual dub, and the video plays fine, but there is no sound. i play it in MPC, and the sound plays fine!!
i am still able to compress the audio to MP3 in virtual dub however. when i load the compressed file back into virtual dub, i then get an error "no installed audio codec could be found".
both the uncompressed and compressed files play fine in MPC, but not virtual dub! how can this be? i can encode but not decode!?!?

Hi!
Please do the following for both the original (HuffYUV/PCM) and compressed (with .MP3 audio) .AVIs:
1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub
2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"
3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

thanks for your help but i was able to fix it, and it turns out the problem was more serious than i had thought.
i was unable to hear any system sounds, such as the clicks you hear navagating through folders in windows. this happend as i was uninstalling some older codec packs that i had on my system since i realized how bloated they were.
there was a tool i found by chance in the k-lite codec pack released august 10 2006 that had a 'fix system sound not working' checkbox, i tried it, and it worked!
if you have this problem, just download the k-lite codec pack from free-codecs.com and use the fixbrokencodecs tool, and check 'fix broken system sound'
it seemed to be a simple registry problem.
i am now able to hear sound in virtualdub with pcm and mp3 audio.
thanks anyway!
