What's the main difference between the resize filters?

I'm sorry if this as been answered over and over again, but I was looking for this info since I registered (about 2 weeks ago) and couldn't find anything (if at least the search function was working...), so I'm posting it...
What are the differences between choosing the bilinear, soft bicubic, etc. resize filters in GKNot?
Is it in any way related to the bits/pixel number, the compressability, the chosen resolution, what?
What is the criteria on chosing any of those settings?
Any help is appreciatted :)

Ignore anything you read in that article.
Bilinear will always result in a soft looking encode with less picture detail than bicubic. You need more bitrate for bicubic to encode cleanly but if you have it the result is a crisper image that more closely approximates the original DVD source.
Ideally you should use avisynth as it has soft/neutral/sharp levels of bicubic rather than just the single precise (sharp) that nandub has.

If it looks good to you :)
e.g. I prefer softer image, so I use soft bicubic for noisy sources, and neutral for the rest. Tried bilinear several times, but the result was too blurry for me.
imho its a matter of personal preferences

I'm a fan of neutral bicubic. It's sharp enough to retain detail but it doesn't have the pixel/block "crawliness" that sharp bicubic can have on less than perfect source.
Soft bicubic is a nice alternative to bilinear, which I can't stand for any useage. If a movie can't fit on 1cd with soft bicubic then I'd rather go 2cd's instead of wrecking the detail with bilinear.

my goal is to get a rip with a picture as close as possible to the original dvd. what is the best choice, neutral or sharp bicubic?
