View Full Version : Sticky with the recommended codec versions?

Could we have a regularly-updated "recommended codecs" sticky for video codecs, much like hydrogenaudio does for audio codecs?
For example, in order for people to find the latest ffdshow build right now they have to search through two threads, one 1844 posts long the other 328 posts long.

such a sticky is damn hard to maintain. it would need to be set up by someone who has been around for a long time (and therefore has prooven to be able to take care about the sticky at least time-wise), by someone who is willing to maintain it (download locations change often, it makes no sense to setup such a sticky once, when its outdated again after a few months) and who is willing to follow the discussions always for checking out where to get the latest compiles (even if he/she doesnt need them that regularily)
i wont do it and i dont understand why simply using search for finding neat download locations is so difficult
apart from that i question myself why its so hard to simply use the downloads available on doom9.org?

For starters, the Doom9 download link for ffdshow is broken.
I can understand a need for such a sticky. The latest version is not always the greatest version, as we have learned from the myriad of ffdshow builds, but also commercial codecs such as Nvidia's PureVideo.

for the latest ffdshow, mpc, haali, x264 builds, x264.nl is the place to be.
