I have created a multilanguage menu in VTS_1 by adding a language container for "German" and one for "English". According to the preferred language set in the DVD player, the menu is being selected. But what happens if a DVD player with a language other than German or English loads the DVD? Which menu gets selected or do I have to add something to my menu? Unfortunately I don't know how to test this case. I use VideoLAN to test English and WinDVD to test German, but I don't know how to change this preferred language option.

If SPRM 0 (Preferred menu language) does not match he first LU will be played
I don't know how to test this case.
You can use the simulation mode in scenarist itself or trace mode in Pgcedit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/pgcedit.exe) or Marks Tray Player (http://www.simtel.net/product.php%5Bid%5D82312%5Bcid%5D192%5BSiteID%5Dsimtel.net)
These are powerfull tools for testing DVD projects, you can set SPRMs to your need, verify GPRMs and so on.

Thanks for your helping reply!
I've seen original DVDs, where the menu only had one language unit and the preferred language was determined by the language code... why was it done that way and not by different language units (that's what they're there for, aren't they)? Is there any difference between adding language units and setting the language with help of the sprm(0) value? I consider it much easier to use different language units...

Unfortunately there are SA that dont let you configure the default menu language settings.

So the first LU is selected automatically in that case?

Yes and no
The player is equipped with SPRM 0 but you cannot change its value. Many of these players have its value set to 25966 (English) by the manufacturer so the english menu will be selected. If the default setting does not match then the first LU is selected.

An example on what Bigotti5 is explainig is a fanny situation I have with one of my standalones...
I bought it some years ago here (in Italy - I mean, I did not brought it from abroad) so it was supposed to be ok on my side...
Unfortunately the menues settings are including English, German, and French (if I remind properly...) but not Italian...
So most of the DVD I have, when played with this standalone, start with the English menu, even though they have nice Italian menues inside...
And I have no other ways to properly watch these DVD on this standalone, than making backups removing all of the LUs except the Italian one... [thanks to PgcEdit by RolZ...]...
Cheers,
SD
