x264.nl won't be updated for a while (days/weeks/months(hope not)).
Simple reason: electronics + lightning = system faillure.
Just about everything is broken and just yesterday i finally had some internet.
I will start testing HDDs today (if i can) and we shall see how lucky i am
update 000001:
mainbord/gfx card/cpu are dead.
msys(x264) hdd still working, copying all data asap!
(will keep updating first thread)
update 000002:
All HDDs are still working, all data copied to a safe place.
4 nics are dead (10 dollar nics to safe some old computers)
Now the question is: AMD or INTEL?

you are not using powerbar or ups?
we got power problem at work. UPS burned in smoke. all PC safe :)
in any case, sorry to hear :(

sorry to hear that, i've been down the same road. cpu was fried, one of three hard disks had a lot of corruption. after some lengthy scanning and testing i got the hdd working fine, course with the loss of data.
hope you get up and running soon :)

sheeesh... sorry to hear that.
i had several problems with lightnings and sometimes standard UPSes are not enough to protect.
Be sure to get an (expensive) "online" UPS... it will protect your hardware for that kind of problems.

Updating first thread with good and bad news.
The msys(x264) hdd seems to be okay, copying data asap now.
Thousands of euros of damage, and you never know what insurance will bring you in the end.
Anyway, i dont care about that, as long as most critical data is recovered. (yes i make backups, just last 3 months i was so busy and last few weeks it was too hot to think straight :p)
But here are the important points:
1: i am still alive
2: i have internet
3: i have hot water
4: all data may be recovered :D
Now let me put some info on x264.nl .... thanks for the support ;)

intel! core 2 duo's..more performance, lower price, lower electricity usage
and the money you save can get a good UPS/surge suppressor/line conditioner

Webservers don't exactly need to be modern tech, you could put any cpu in it, even something you got at a yard sale for $5, and it'll run fine. Even if you need it to compile stuff hourly, which I believe his does.
(And don't buy all of Intel's hype - I've had a webserver/fileserver made from a socket A Athlon XP-M for years, something you could get with case and mobo off newegg for $100, and it uses even less power and runs just as quiet as the core duo and core 2 duo systems I've owned. It worked great as an encoding machine on the side, auto-reclocking.)
A core 2 and perephrials would be a waste of money unless it was an encoding machine. :p

While a UPS is essential for what you do, maybe investing in Surge Protected plug sockets, and a circuit breaker is the next task. Belkin are good for the surge protection, I've had no problems with them so far!

man I am so lucky, last week we had a thunderstorm, power blew (in general in the city block) then went on, I turn my computer on, power goes off again... no surge protection, no UPS, no demage :) but I'm definitely looking for surge protection (and then UPS when funds permit), I'm looking at APC right now for both.
Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you the same way.
As for Intel vs AMD, I have been exclusively AMD guy since the days of orininal K6 in mid 90s, but now looking at Core2 (aka Conroe) I would definitely go for that if I was buying a new comp, no question in my mind about that.

I would suggest an AMD Geode NX1750+. The Geode consumes only 14 watts, and it's performance is probably more than enough. And it's cheap! (€62 including mainboard in The Netherlands)

New computer ordered, a "simple" Intel D 930.
As long as it can play h264 1080p and work as dvb-s2 h264 decoder its fine by me :)
With any luck x264.nl will be updated within 1-3 days.

Well, at least whoever you pay for your electricity will be happy
I mean, X2 3800+ is cheaper, faster, uses less electricity en is therefor more silent. Ah well. You'll have your reasons, I guess.

x264.nl up to date again!
Revision 547 default mingw gcc and just make instead of make fprofiled
make fprofiled did not work:

make[1]: *** [common/mc.o] Error 1

make: *** [fprofiled] Error 2
Could be gcc version related!
Enjoy!

Kinda unrelated, but is there any chance of getting a RSS feed for the x264 changelog?
Thanks.

My friend was telling me about that recently. I'd also say Intel.

Except, you can't really get a Core 2 Duo yet. I'd go with a tried n true Opteron or cheap Athlon64 X2.

Seems revision 543 is causing some make fprofiled compiling problems.
GCC has been updated to 3.4.6 but it still has about the same error.
Revision 542 does work with make fprofiled..... soon my friends, soon!
Edit:
Revision 551 fixed it.

In case people wonder: the x264.nl server has passed away.
I am still searching for a new host. Finding one is easy, finding one that will be stable for 4+ years is another.

I am still searching for a new host. Finding one is easy, finding one that will be stable for 4+ years is another. Why not just assign one of the mirrors?
bob0r
10th February 2010, 22:33
I want to keep the mirrors as mirrors, because they aren't that stable.
With stable i also mean an owner who can be reached within a week, for most of the mirrors this is not the case. :p
But i'll find one...

@bob0r: btw. if you want to compress the win64 builds too, you could use mpress (http://www.matcode.com/mpress.htm)

PE32+/x64 -6325.0kB- MPRESS: TLS callbacks are not supported in this version.

missed that :( (never stumbled over it, seems like the stuff I normally compress doesn't use tls callbacks)
