View Full Version : What do you do with your backups?

I was thinking of this yesterday. I have over 100 DVDs (in my collection last time I checked). If I backed them all up, where would I put them? In those DVD pouches?
So I was thinking, what does everyone here do with their backups. Where do you store them and how do you store them? And when you loan them out to people, do you put them in cases or those flimsy plastic things?

Hi!
This has already been addressed in at least one thread (liely one or two more, if you search) at:

And when you loan them out to peopleI don't do this...

At first i just put the DVD-R back unto the jewel cases and then the jewel cases in larger boxes, but so time ago i started using spindle DVD-R (as the same product i have so far bought in jewel cases became available in spindles of 10 and 25), for these i now buy cheap storage boxes for 80 "CDs" each.
These boxes come with a sort of envelope for 2 disks back on back each (are these the "flimsy plastic things"?) and so the m^3/bit - ratio dropped considerably compared to jewel cases. However these cheap boxes need additional protection from sunlight as i found out when i looked at the outermost disk (facing my window) that turned from light blue to a frightening brownish color.
For when i take my disks for a walk (to watch somewhere else, like at a friend's) i always keep a couple of spare slim jewel cases for transport.

I store to Hard drive for instant access on my HTPC and home wireless network. Specifically, I have some TV series archived (The Office, Smallville, Firefly, & Band of Brothers), and random movies.
Part of the encoding that i do is more a "hobby" in that I like the doing of it. I've been rendering smaller these days to potentially backup some day. But backing up to CD/DVD/DL has not been a priority for me.
