I have several HD movies in matroska container, with x264 video and i want to convert it to WMV-HD so i can view it on my XBOX360. I've tried WME but it makes a stupid error, it makes the first step, then finishes the encode, gives no error code, but dont make nay file and dont go to second pass.
Any one have any idea how to make it?

Does it take Avisynth input?
If so, what I usually do to convert MKVs are load them into virtualdubmod, frameserve them to a vfp, load that with AVISource in AVIsynth, then feed that into your encoder.

I too have been looking for a way to convert mkv with h264 to wmv-hd. I have tried all different programs with no success. It would not be so bad if transcode 360 would work with mkv wich makes no sence since it works with mencoder. I was thinking about converting to mpeg-2 but I dont want to spend 15+ gigs for one movie

The easy and guaranteed to work way is to first convert to a lossless intermediate format, such as huffy+pcm in avi.

That option's only working with vfw-mode mkvs. What's wrong with DirectShowSource? Well, okay, I can name a lot wrong with it, but it's best to start there, and only get tricky if you have to.

Why not just re-rip from your original DVDs?
