I'm new to encoding stuff. I'm trying to encode this anime: Zero no Tsukaima
(I'm using virtualdub, tell me if theres something else I could use) Do I need to use avisynth?

I'm trying to get rid of the black boxes above and below the video by using resize. Then here comes the problem, the compression, I know I should use Xvid as most sub groups use that but I'm not sure about the settings to use, plus I want the output size after encoding to be around 175mb.

Could you guys please help me?

Thanks,
Evil.

Is your source a DVD?

No, its a raw from TV

Edit: How to include the avisynth script? I can see the changes the script does in Virtualdub, then do I need to use Full processing mode? or another mode? Thanks

Just always use Fast recompress. Those "changes" are what VirtualDub will send to the encoder...

Just wanted to know, why does deen("a3d",4) and mftoon() seem to make the encode go at like 1fps only?

both are reasonably cpu intensive filters.

there are plenty of guides around for xvid options - I highly recommend you read several.
