Hey all.
I've been using Gordian Knot for years to make DivX out of my DVDs but I have noticed that the project has not been updated since like 2003, so I figured it was time to get up to date on what software I used, especially since it doesn't appear to support DivX 6 which I have not yet installed.

I did try DivX Create, which comes from the DivX people themselves, but honestly the simplistic interface is a joke, and the renderings were terrible.

I'm looking for a replacement for GKnot.
Something where I can specify the end filesize, the resolution, the compression quality, and yes IVTC... Anything not originally recorded as "FILM" I use IVTC for because it does a great job of making a smooth video from interlaced video files such as any "extra features" on DVDs or any DVDs of television shows. Its much cooler in my opinion to have a year's worth of a TV show compressed and burned onto one DVD than to have it spread across 6 or 7 DVDs. IVTC to correct framerate or something like that - does a good job despite the ever present warning that I should not use this option.

Is there an up to date tool that does all this, and does a good job of it too?
Anything that supports DivX 6? The FAQ doesn't seem to mention any new software, so what is everybody using these days??
I just reinstalled Windows on my PC and I was getting reading to put GKnot back on, but thought maybe I should come back here where I first heard of it and see what everybody's doing as of late.

Thanks.

You missed Rules 3 and 9. ;)

I'll ask Wilbert to move this to the DivX Encoding forum. You should probably make the subject more descriptive. To change it, click the Edit button on your opening post, then click "Go Advanced" below the editing window.

I haven't tried StaxRip, but I hear it's good. I still use Gordian Knot with XviD for the reasons you listed, and it does work with newer DivX codecs.

for a no "worries" conversion and super simple yet functional gui i recomend avi.Net.

if you want the kind of options(and more) you were getting with GK i recommend StaxRip, in my opinion is the sucessor of GK.

If youre going to use the DMF format xsubs/multiple audio i recommend DRdivxRC1.
