Hello,
I captured a movie which has 16:9 format. Because I have a 4:3 TV there were black bars up and down. So they are in my output video as well.
Now I want to author that VOB file. But I want to have it in 16:9. But without the black bars. But they are in my video. So how can I delete them without needing to reencode the video ? Is this possible ?

Nope.

You have to re-encode the video.
The easiest way for you to convert the movie to anamorphic is to use the program DVD Rebuilder. I believe the free version will do this. It has a feature called LB 4:3 -> 16:9. It will crop the bars and re-encode the movie as 16x9 anamorphic.

That would be pretty cool. I'll test it.

Just wanted to mention that you have to enable the LB 4:3 -> 16:9 feature in the menu. It is off by default.

Mhm. I just don't get it to work.
What version of DVD Rebuilder and CCE do I need ? I tried the test version of the DVD-RB and the Basic Version 2.7 of CCE. But everytime I click Encode there is the message my trial period was over. So what am I doing wrong ???

That seems like that is a CCE error.
DVD-RB works with HC, a good free alternative to CCE.
If HC was not bundled with your DVD-RB download, you can get it here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=110594
Set the path for HC in DVD-RB setup menu and set it to be the encoder of choice.
If you still have problems, make a post in the DVD-RB section of the forum.

OK. I downloaded the free version of dvd RB which works fine. And I loaded the HC Codec. But there's no way to specify the path to the encoder in the opitions of DVD-Rb (there's only CCE, Procoder, ... but no HC).
What can I do ?

Hello ?

I forgot that the free version of RB does not have native support for HC because I use the Pro version.
I believe that jdobbs said that you could set the HC path using the QuEnc path box. Set it to the HC batch exe, not the GUI exe. (There was a tool called HC_CLI, but I'm not sure it is needed anymore.)
If that does not work you can try the other free encoder QuEnc. Or upgrade to RB Pro to get native HC support or purchase CCE Basic.

So. I managed it to make it with CCE 2.7.
But I have 2 problems left:
1.) Why is the Codec only decoding video and not sound ?
2.) Where in DVD-RB or CCE can I change the bitrate ? 8 MBit/s is a lot too much for my material.

1 - DVD-RB does not touch or re-encode audio. It uses the original.
2 - If you look in the Sticky posts in the DVD-RB section of the forum you will find out about the hidden settings in the ini file to set the max bit rate. Or you can use the add on program RB-Opt to adjust the bit rate.

@ Video Dude: And Where are these hidden settings in Rebuilder.ini ? Could you tell me, because I found nothing in the sticky posts :(

OK. I have changed the ini in the program directory of DVD-RB (Rebuilder.ini) the following:
[Options]
Mode=1
OneClick=0
ReduceOpt=0
NoWarn=1
AdditionalOutput=1
LogFile=1
QuEncHQ=1
EncoderMinimized=1
RemoveDTS=1
HC_Quality=1
HC_Matrix=1
SkinVersion=3
HalfD1=00
Convert_16_9=10
DisableInterlace=00
CCE=3
DECOMBFlag=0
min_bitrate=4000
max_bitrate=4000
[Paths]
DECOMB=C:\Programme\AviSynth\plugins\Decomb521.dll
MPEG2DEC=C:\Programme\DVD Rebuilder\DGDecode.dll
Working=C:\OUT2\
Output=C:\OUT2\
Source=C:\OUT\VIDEO_TS\
CCENEW=C:\Programme\CCE\cctspt.exe
As you can see I want a constand bitrate of 4000 Kbps.
But still DVD RB does 8000 KBps. Where's my mistake ?
Bye
