i have these 2 files that are xvid files.
When i try to play them i only get the audio. i have installed the xvid codec properly as it works on other xvid videos. when i did the 4cc thing code it came up as Xvid. i don't understand why it doesn't work. perhaps its the files that are broken? just seems weird that as they're part of a series so why those 2 wud be different to the others....
sorry if i sound like a n00b. never had problems with codecs before.

Please read and follow forum rules, specifically, rule 9: use a proper thread title. Thank you.

How did you encode the XviD files?

Do you have any kind of codec packs? If so, they're probably screwing you up and stuff will never quite work right until you remove them.

Please read the forum rules, specifically rule 6; if you think you are about to violate this rule please don't bother to ask further.

k sorry changed the title of the thread.
i'm pretty sure what i'm asking for help with watching isn't illegal though i'll find out for sure.
I didn't encode the xvid files myself.
I don't think i have any codec packs other than xvid and divx which i installed seperately.
When i try to open the file in media player it plays the sound so i click error details and webhelp. The site that comes up says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the XVID MPEG-4 (XVID) codec is not installed on your computer"
but it is installed. Is media player not finding the codec? or is it the wrong version of the codec? I'm so confused by it all, any help would be appreciated.

This sticky (http://forum.doom9.org/announcement.php?f=6) should explain why your request is breaking rule #6.
If you did not encode the files yourself, then from where did your obtain them?

sorry. i was sent them by a friend to see if they worked on my computer. i'm still unsure as to where he got them, though i think from what he said someone made them as copies from a dvd he has. i understand if this is against the rules and sorry if it caused any bother to the forums. i was just innocently just looking for help.

Sorry but that's too close for comfort. Closed for possible violation of rule 6.
