Hello, Im currently looking to upgrade my old but trusty capture card, the PDI Deluxe. The main reason I bought this was so I could capture through component input to get the best quality possible for capturing video from video games. Since the newer consoles seem to be adopting HD resolutions I was curious if theres a card out there that could meet my needs. Essentially I'm looking for a PCI (Or PCI Express) card that can capture at up to 1080P (and everything in between).
I've been looking around and it seems http://www.aja.com/index.html is really the only thing I can find. If someone could help point out which one would be the best thing for me (I dont want to sacrafice quality) that would be excellent. Im not sure on what some of these inputs are, but Im guessing they can all be converted to DVI, RGB, component etc input.
Sorry if this is kinda an odd or stupid question, I've been out of the scene for a couple years now. Thanks!

I have the MyHD MDP-130. I don't know if it can capture 1080p as there are no 1080p sources in the USA yet except for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. HDTV in the USA doesn't go beyond 1080i yet.
However, I want to point out that I have found a superior way to capture HDTV signals. Take a look at:
http://hdjunkie.com/tutorials.html
If you have an HD cable box in the USA, Federal law requires that local channels be unencrypted. I am getting excellent quality captures using this method. I have no interest in pay channels such as HBO, so this method is working great for me and it doesn't even use my MYHD card. I had an antenna I was feeding into the MYHD card and I was starting to have a lot of dropouts, so I got the cable box and started using the method I mentioned above.

Well Im not really interested in broadcast HD channels as I dont even have a television to support it yet. What I want is a card which can capture from video game consoles. I know at least a few games on the PS3 are coming out in 1080P (very few) however I want a future proof card.

I've been looking around and it seems http://www.aja.com/index.html is really the only thing I can find.As it appears your seeking a component solution, in addition to AJA's Xena, have a look at BlackMagic's Decklink HD Extreme (cheaper, but IIRC, it doesn't feature clock synching). Also have a look at the Bluefish444 products
Im not sure on what some of these inputs are, but Im guessing they can all be converted to DVI, RGB, component etc input. What don't you understand? The Xena has its "component in" plugs on the breakout cable.
What I want is a card which can capture from video game consolesInterestingly enough, there was a couple of related threads about just this last summer - both here and on avsforums: Do a search for user easy2becheesy's posts here in this forum ... he was using DVI input on the Accustream, but IIRC, the card also features component inputs.

IIRC the Xena has BNC Component in (and out too). Would there be any drawbacks using a phono>BNC adapter? I recently found the Decklink line and It looks like Ill be going with them. They are cheaper and they seem to have nearly the same specifications as the Xena.

As I mentioned on AVS, I was wrong about the genlock being absent, as it is indeed present on this card...(but it wasn't on their older entry level HD card). So, as the other poster (on AVS) mentioned, it should work just fine for you.
