After trying everything out there I can say that the best quality/effort is using GKnot with Divx 4.11 (2 passes).
There's a great guide in the doom9 site.
GKnot is fairly easy to use and the rips are fast.
FU,Flask are outdated and slow.
All divxd 3.11 software are not as - the best of which - nandub needs a lot of configuring.
XMpeg (fastest rips) is an alpha software which crashes a lot :( (and doesn't always like the vobs you feed it) :( :(.
I've had some quality problems with XMpeg, some movies turned out blurry while GKnot created great ones (both divx4).
Divx4 movie playback is less CPU consuming, so older PCs can play it.
