It's probably an audio format that's not compatible with Premiere, though that doesn't sound likely. Can you change the bitrate to 44100 b/s?

just found this in the program's readme file
MP3 audio is not supported within an AVI file. If you import an AVI file that has MP3 audio, such as a Divx-encoded AVI, audio is not imported.
i know you could do this back in 1.5, but is there a way around this?

Demux, decode to normal wav if necessary, and import separately?

i'm trying to make this highlight vid from around 30+ avis and stripping audio/video from each would be waaaaaaay too tedious.

Hi!
No need to demultiplex/convert/remultiplex.
Use VirtualDub as follows:
1) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
2) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode" - and select "compression" and set to "No Compression (PCM)" (WAV)
3) Use "Job Control" to first load and then process ALL .MP3 .AVIs
If your 30 .AVIs are each approximately 10 minutes running time, the ENTIRE conversion should take 5 to 15 minutes, depending upon your system...
