2 DVD to 1 double layer DVD

I have a Joe Satriani boxed set containing two single layer DVDs.
How do I burn them to a double layer DVD?

One DL blank media = more than $2.00US

May I ask why you would want to do this?

Actually its because I'm a total newbie and am "on a learning curve".

this CAN be achieved using freeware tools, although it may take a fair effort to achieve your end result ... although i think mr satriani is well worth the effort :D

if this gets a bit too hard to follow, then i would highly recommend using DVDRemakePro (unfortunately not freeware) which will perform this task in only a few clicks.

People on the forum seem to like DVDRemakePro. Is it possible to use DVDRemakePro to remove unwanted bits and pieces then shrink with DVD Shrink but still retain the menu structure.
I thought that menu(s) were lost with DVD Shrink.

Am I missing something?

i would not hesitate to endorse DVDRemakePro - i find it to be a powerful, yet intuitave program that is very useful for removing content, bypassing menus/warnings etc, and merging multiple discs.
however, depending on what your needs are, you can usually perform all your 'editing' needs using freeware such as vobblanker and pgcedit. you can then use shrink to apply any necessary compression to your edited files.
note, that when using shrink in re-author mode you WILL lose functionng menus, however in full back-up mode, you will retain full functionality of everything you have kept following your editing.

I had a look at pgcedit and found it too complicated for a newbie.............need to get up to speed!!!!

I'll have a look at vobblanker later.

As far as DVD Shrink is concerned, I suspected that in full back-up mode menus etc would be retained and last night I had a play with that.
As well as vobblanker, I'm going to have a look at how much compression I can get away with before picture quality (on stand alone player) becomes unacceptable.
I suspect that this will not be an exact science, varying from movie to movie (?) but I need to get some idea.
