I've used DGIndex (1.4.8.b5) to create my .d2v and .ac3 files and use VFAPI Reader codec (1.05) to render to avi but this won't play in any type of media player, says format not recognised or something similar, does someone have an insight into this please.

VFAPI Reader codec - does not make a valid avi, its used to make a psudo avi.

to make an avi you will need to use autogk or megui - or simular apps

The guides that I have read say that it should play like a genuine AVI, I need a reply from someone that has used this and can give me a reason why mine is not, thanks anyhow.

It's working fine for me. Describe your exact process.

What happens when you load the AVI in VirtualDub?

Hi neuron2, I haven't used VirtualDub, don't know anything about it. WMP or Classic are supposed to see it as a real AVI and play it. I have a dvd with low level audio and I want to raise the level of audio (it is an old 1940's movie). I tried to load it into TMPGEnc, in the Options plug-ins it shows VFApi but still doesn't play it either.
Is there another way I can vary the audio level?
Unless I did something wrong with DGIndex maybe I should repost this in Audio forum

I asked you to describe your exact process. I can't help you if you don't provide the data I need.

I tried again and everything works fine with WMP and Classic. You must be doing something wrong, so you have to tell me exactly what you are doing.

You don't have to use VFAPI. You can use Avisynth to frame serve as described in the DGMPGDec Quick Start guide.

Thanks, I apologise for being vague. While I was writing my reply into notepad I stumbled across an explanation about VFApi. There is a file vifpset.bat that needs to be executed to load into windows reg and this has fixed my problem about not being able to be played, thanks for your interest.
BTW, I tend to shy from AVISynth because all that I have read confuses me about the scripts that need to be run and I'm not too certain about all of that.

PS....I just noticed that there is no audio. I have used Gspot to verify this, should there be audio whilst playing in media player?
