View Full Version : Overlay video mode disappeared!

On my PC (nVidia FX5200 with latest drivers and latest DirectX) overlay mode suddenly is no more available. mplayer informs me that "my video card don't support overlay" and switch to another, blockier, video mode (=no interpolation, I think); the same with VLC and MPC.
The next best thing I've found with mplayer is OpenGL mode and VMR9 with MPC, but both are slower than overlay.
I've reinstalled several times the card drivers and DirectX, but to no results.
I'm not a hardware expert, that means that my card is broken? :scared:

Overlay works here, no matter the player and I have a Chaintech vc with the latest drivers and latest DirectX. Maybe there was a problem during the Forceware installation and the registry messed up?.

Possibly the card is broken, what did you do prior to the overlay borking? You can also try a aystem restore to see if it works.

Overlay always worked with my FX5200. Without apparent reason, one day just stopped working.
If the registry is the cause, someone please can tell me where to look?

Don't know if it's related, but some days before I've lowered the video card latency to 64 (as advised elsewhere in this forum). Since then I've put it back to defaults, but overlay was still missing.
Regarding system restoring, my HD is pretty full at this moment, so I prefer to use that as the last resort...

start, run, "dxdiag"
You can try this, but I doubt it will fix the overlay issue, who knows though.
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\quartz.dll (or whatever your system drive is)
