Hi,

I am new here and would like to ask, how I can select a DVD file size when I make a backup of my DVD ( DVD-DVD).
My last backup was only 1.2 GB in size but I wanted at least 4.7GB to use all of the DVD size of 4.7 GB.
Where can I select the size for the output file ?

Hello and welcome to the forum-

It's all about the bitrate. Use a bitrate calculator to choose the bitrate for a specified file size. Here's a pretty good one:

Most people use 4.37 GB as the figure for the total file size.

Where can I select the size for the output file ?

Don't you think it would help if you told us which encoder you're using? And please don't tell us you're using something where the choices are Good, Better, Best, or some such. Any decent MPEG-2 encoder has a place to fill in the minimum, average, and maximum bitrates.

Well, itīs the CCE 2.5 and I did set the "CD size" in DVD2SVCD to "4464" with default values, but still got a Video_TS of ~ 1.2 GB:( .

It's been a while since I've used DVD2SVCD. You're making a DVD, instead of an SVCD? 2 things come to mind. One is that the video is so short that you can't use all the bits you'd need to reach that size. That is, you've run up against the max bitrate limitations (65 minutes or so, depending on the audio). The other thing it might be is that you saturated the codec. That is, it's already at the best possible quality, and the video can't use more bits. Without the log though, it's hard to tell if one of those is it, or perhaps you have a setting off somewhere.

If you're making an SVCD, then it's almost certainly bitrate limitations, as SVCD has a pretty low max bitrate, so even a full length movie wouldn't be able to fill a DVDR. It's only 2560 (?, minus the audio) or something like that.
