What causes edge noise? I've tried CQM: Shark High and Low, Jaw1, MPEG, H263; quantizer 3@1st pass, q=2-4, bitrates 1500-1600, ME=6, VHQ=4, VHQ Bframes on, chroma on. It's a high quality progressive clip and the rest of it looks fine.

We need to see a) an unprocessed VOB sample, b) screenshots demonstrating this so-called edge noise c) your .avs script.
Is this anime? and this noise is not in the source, right?

The only times I've had edge noise (in my case, a green stripe along one edge) was when I didn't adhere to MOD-16 resizing.

After I deinterlace with any deinterlacer (I'm using Tomsmocomp which has been the best for me) the film comes out with edges that are not sharp, kind of grainy.

It's more like ghosting around the edges.

I can now only hazard a guess that the cropping is not clearing all the black borders, and since the source is interlaced, some of the border is interlaced into the video. Increasing the crop should solve it.

@cool9, If you could provide at least 1 or 2 of the things I asked for in post #2, we could have something specific to go on with. Or we all could continue this guessing game.
