This is driving me crazy and i would really really appreciate help .

I am running win2k sp2.

After installing the os and sp2 and drivers next thing is usually divx 3.11..

All files encoded with 3.11 play fine..

But some of my files are encoded with versions of divx four, so either i choose , use this codec for 3 content or not, result is the same.

COMPLTELY unwatchable divx rips, horrible halo effects, blockiness etc.

I have tired booting into safe mode, attribing the system32 folder and deleting the divx*.ax files but no difference.

Once i have installed 411 half my divx files are comletely unwatchable, whether i choose use it to play the 311 content or not, or i do my best to delete the codec.

I never had this problem in Win98se and am loosing my mind as to what is causing it.

hardware is abit kg7-raid, athlon 1400, 512mb crucial ddr ram..cas 2, video g-force 2 gts, can anyone suggest something, i am going crazy with this??????

Strangely for me it's slightly the other way 'round. It is known that the divx4 codec "ursupated" all divx playback wether you selected to play all divx content or not. But this should have been corrected in newer versions. And divx4.11 is fine for me in this respect. But my divx4 videos still don't look very good in Win98. Whereas in Win2k they look great. I even haven't installed divx3.11 in Win2k because 4.11 does such a good job even for 3.11 encoded files.

To delete divx codecs in Win2k my first thougt would be to use the uninstall option under "software" in the system settings. Or you could go to device manger -> audio, video,... -> videocodecs (I don't know if it's called exactly like this as I'm in Win98 atm, but you should find it) and delete it from there.

Sorry that I can't help you more with this.

Finally figured it out,

After several formats ,reinstalls etc, i realised the only constant thing was my video settings. For years have been using 16bit colour..upped that to 32bit..problem solved.

Using the 21.81 detonator (xp) drivers, possibly a driver problem?, i dunno, i can play all my divx again, i'm happy :)

Nope, iam using this driver and WinXP is running 32bit mode. Everthing looks really good. Only Flasks still sucks (but who cares, i don't use this piece of shit) :)
