I -reinstalled my winMe.
it has WMP 7.1 as default
so downloaded WMP 9 from the microsoft's site.
and when tried to install.... it warned me...that its installation will disable my System Restore...and suggested a Fix to download and install ..which I did promtly
that is downloaded the suggested fix....installed it....rebooted to be on the safe side..and then Installed WMP9
..every thing seemed OK...so far... But when I tried to play certain AVI files... it gave me " Class not registered " message...
which when I searched around , found to be associated with codecs..
so I downloaded all the suggested codecs...
from the microsofts site.... Media player 9 codec pack...as well as from other sites... like for example the DivX codec...
installed them all...
But still the problem remained...
I again searched around...and found... I had to re-install WMP 7.1 again.....and also I had to re-install a certain quartz.dll file
which I did...as suggested....
But still it did not solved my problem ( could not play Avi files )
... I again searched for the solution...and found I had to unistall the WMP 9.... re-install 7.1 ......and do it all over again....
..when I tried to uninstall WMP9.... it could not be... uninstalled from ADD/Remove...
and from Microsoft's site ...the only suggestion that came was to RESTORE the system to an earlier date, prior to the installation of WMP 9.
...Now when I tried to use the system restore feature...
It has been corrupted....!!
and every time I try it...it say... re-start your system for system restore to work.... even after re-starting... the same message....
Also .... Other Media Players like DivX or Zoom player....too
do not seem to be able to play that AVI file...
... that AVI file playes perfectly well on Other systems..to that avi file being corrupt...has little chance....
Can any one help...??..or suggest any other course of action.... except maybe re-installing the whole OS...!!
