View Full Version : bitstreams for conformance test

I have a H.264 baseline decoder and would like to test it with some conforming bitstreams. I check the JVT archive site but couldn't find anything useful. Google doesn't helps either. Are there any such bitstreams publicly available?

why not just encode a sample clip with x264 using different options ? ;)

DarkZell666: Thanks for the suggestion. I will do this. But I won't be able to test against a specific clause of the AVC spec. this way.
akupenguin: Please correct me if I am wong, my understanding is that bitstream from this site is just for conformance against some version of the draft spec., but not the final spec.

Isn't that backwards? If you're using someone else's pre-encoded files, you're at the mercy of whatever combinations of options they used. If you encode your own, you can test whatever features of the spec you want.

Sure, those streams were generated before the spec was finalized. But only the wording of the spec changed since that draft, not the meaning of the bitstream.

dunno who understood what, lol, but I was suggesting mesh should rip like 30 seconds of a DVD and encode that sample to x264 with his own lot of settings.
Actually, did I get something wrong myself ? oO *wondering*
Unless x264 doesn't support all baseline features he can produce any compliant bitstream he wants himself right ?

x264 doesn't support FMO.

Anything in Baseline/Extended that isn't in Main/High isn't in x264 and probably won't ever officially be, unless a "streaming" version of the codec is developed.

I would have never even thought that some features in baseline profile wouldn't exist in the "superior" profiles ... thx for pointing that out :)
