The Pink Panther is the first movie I have run into where I cant decrypt it with DVD FabDecrypter. Has anyone sucessfully backed this one up?

Hi!
For a freeware method, I believe it can be successfully decrypted using the exact method used for "Freedomland", using the combination of DVD Decrypter, PGCEdit and FixVTS (do a search here for "Freedomland").
For a commercial solution, I used DVD95Copy(Pro) to decrypt, compress and burn...

Fab worked for me.

Like setarip, I also used a commercial product, AnyDVD. You can download a free trial on SlySoft's site.

Make sure you update to the latest DVD FAB Decrypter. Use Google or videohelp.com to find the latest.
It even supports the new freedomland.

I've just gotten use to PGCEdit and FixVTS but it dosn't seem to work with The Pink Panther.Before anyone suggest using Fab,I've already backed up my purchased copy using Fab.My question is has anyone successfully back up Pink Panther using the Decrypter PGCEdit and FixVTS method?After deleting the crap I found a problem in vts_2,vob missing or unreadable.I open the TS file in Shrink and the main movie is replaced by extra's.Is there anyway to deal with this problem?

Have you updated your FixVTS (www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS)?
Also, if there are bogus last VTSs, you need to remove them. PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) can do this by:

I can use Fab just fine, but using Shrink to copy the movie results in a bad DVD. I notice Shrink only recognized 1 chapter .... I do have the latest version of Fab ...

Does it work with the plug in for wizard updated with FixVTS 1.3. I updated mine yesterday with it. Or do you have to manually remove the last VTS.

You may still need to manually remove it. Check it out in PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html). You can tell if the last VTS is crap by the time of the title - 1 hr 36 mins or something.
This will make more room for your shrinking.

So it was the PGC Pointers that was wrong.After running the updated FixVTS to 1.3 I had no problem.I didn't even have to delete the the last VTS.After runnig it through Decrypter skipping the bad sectors,I run it through FixVTS,after that I was able to open it in Shrink.

You will make a better copy if you delete the last VTS because it is just junk...~700MB I think... of stuff that you don't need. Shrink just compresses that to. So instead of a copy that is 60-70% you get one that is 50%. Does that make sense?

Note - the new version of plugin automatically detects this phoney VTS and sends it to the trash for you. :)

Ripped with AnyDVD v6.0.1.1 / DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 to ISO. AnyDVD v5.9.5.8 would not work.
This does result in garbage titlesets 19 and 20. You can run this through DVD Shrink v3.2 @ No Compression (or whatever) to clean them out.
I cleaned it out this way and then processed it through VobBlanker to rip the junk out. I don't believe VobBlanker by itself will remove these garbage titlesets, and it will complain about the DVD structure on first read. No complaints if run through Shrink first.
Here's a fairly thorough title mapping of the R1 release for those interested:
T2 = MM / Cx1
T5 = preS
T7p = MPAA
T7p = FBI
T7p = c
T11,27-29,31-40,49 = nonT
T12-23,48 = DS
T24,26 = MV
T25 = DK
T30,50 = rT
T41-43 = F
T44-46 = F ("Sleuth-Cams")
Key:
MM / Cx1 = Main Movie / Commentary x 1
preS = opening studio trailer
postS = closing dvd authoring trailer
MPAA = MPAA rating
FBI = FBI/copyright notice
c = commentary notice
nonT = unrelated trailers
DS = deleted scenes
MV = music video
DK = don't know
rT = related trailers
F = featurette
