Hello, I use TDA to cut parts out of DVD's but what I find is that the audio between the two rejoined clips sounds bad so was wondering if there was another program I could use to edit the video plus edit the audio in such a way as to quiet out the end of the ahead clip and the beginning of the next frame, because of the two different sounds with the joining clips/frames, it's noticable that I've joined clips when viewing.
Thanks

Hi,
Im not over familiar with TDA,but im pretty sure it has "Audio Filters" that allow you to `Fade in` and `Fade Out` your clips, but i guess that depends on how many edits you do in one particular clip.

If you need to do multiple cuts on the same clip, then just add the clip multiple times on the source importer, cut out all the unwanted material, add audio fade in/out, rename the clips as you go,so you know the finnished clips will be in the correct sequence.

Hi!

If by "TDA", you mean "TMPGEnc DVD Author", then no (at least through version 1.6) it does not have "fade in"/"fade out" capabilities...

It appears that v.2.0 DOES have this capability. From the Pegasys website (about v.2.0): Apply audio correction filters (noise reduction, fade-in/fade-out, audio gap correction, etc.)

Yes, that is the version I'm using. Any suggestions of another program or a previous version that has that feature?
Thanks

Edit: hehe, posted just before your edit :) Thanks, I'll check it out.
Edit2: did you happen to read also if they added the ability to keep subtitles now?

D`oh...

What kind editing are you doing, how many clips are involved?

I guess you could use Chopper XP to cut out the clips you wish to keep.

Demux the VOB using VirtualdubMod ,save the audio as wav.

Then edit the audio(wav) in something like Audacity (fade in / fade out).
Convert the wav back into AC3 using something like Belight, you should be able to reimport back into TDA.

Its kinda long winded though.

Edit: heres the spec`s for version 2: (no subtitle support i see)

Hi, yeah, all I'm doing is taking a DVDshrink'd dvd, editing with TDA cutting a few sections out. That's pretty much it. It work very well but just that where the ends/begginings of the cuts join ofcourse the audio is different. While watching the video all looks good but noticeable when you hear the audio. I didn't really want to get into demuxing and all that great stuff and run into sync problems later.

To "recapture" subtitles and multiple audiostreams in "TMPGEnc DVD Author":

Complete (ALL Audio and Subtitles) DVD Shrink Clips to TMPGEnc DVD Author

1) DVD Shrink - Re-author "Start/End"

2) TMPGEnc DVD Author - Author clip AS ONE CHAPTER (It will be silent) with desired menu

3) Replace TMPGEnc DVD Author's "VTS_01_1.VOB" with DVDShrink's "VTS_01_1.VOB"

4) (Easier than using IFOEdit) DVDLab - Tools dropdown menu - "IFO Editor - Audio" - Select the DVD TMPGEnc DVD Author "package" "VTS_01_0.IFO". Change number of audiostreams from "1" to actual number. Then, for each audiostream, enter appropriate information (# of channels, format, language, etc.)

5) IFOEdit - Save modified .IFOs and .BUPs (Cosmetic - Open modified "VTS_01_0.IFO", Select "VTSI_MAT" and change value at "[00000255]" from 4 to 1. Resave.)

6) IFOEdit (To fix appearance of subtitles) - Open DVD Shrink clip's "VTS_01_0.IFO". Select "VTS_PGCITI, click on "+" and then select "VTS_PGC_1". From "Subtitle color" dropdown menu, select "Copy colors from this PGC"

6A) While still in "VTS_PGC_1" - Manually copy Sub-picture stream status numbers starting at [0000001c]

7) IFOEdit - Open modified "VTS_01_0.IFO". Select "VTS_PGCITI, click on "+" and then select "VTS_PGC_1". From "Subtitle color" dropdown menu, select "Paste colors into this PGC"

7A) While still in "VTS_PGC_1" - Manually enter Sub-picture stream status numbers starting at [0000001c]

8) Save modified .IFOs and .BUPs

Audacity does a great job with fade in/out but do you know of a different program that will accept 5.1 6ch AC3?

Nero Wave editor (6 or 7) can import/edit/export 6 channel AC3 files using the ac3 plugin.
http://neroplugins.afterdawn.com/

Import,and you should see 6 channels,set the fade in/out,then save as ac3

Ok, I'll give that a try. Audacity can open a multi channel .ogg but when I export back to .ogg after editing, it only says it will do it as two channel. Maybe I did somthing wrong.

EDIT: Does Nero Wave Editor come with Nero 7?

Soory, I probably missed a step in updating this thread that I had to do last night :)
TDA can't apply filters to Milti CH AC3, only Stereo or Mono, so I had to extract the AC3 using DVD Auto Ripper v4 to an ogg because Audacity does nto open AC3 then edit in Audacity Fade in/outs. Then convert back to AC3 to use back in TDA. Still working on the process so I might have gotten somthing mixed up. I can update this thread back once I get the correct proccess I used without loosing Multi 5.1 AC3.
Alot of work to edit the Audio the way I want :(

It work very well but just that where the ends/begginings of the cuts join ofcourse the audio is differentCan you be more descriptive as to what you mean by "different"?

Holomatrix
14th June 2006, 19:18
What I mean by “different” is that lets say the piece of video I am cutting out has machine gun fire continuing into video that I’ve kept until the end of the movie but the video at the start of the cut leading into my cut out is of birds chirping so now my video has a section with birds chirping then violently switches to machine gun fire. The “difference” in the sound change is very noticeable or annoying even though the video, as in all video has changing cut sequences all the time where video changes from one display to another but does not bother you because this is normal. What I’m trying to avoid is the “difference” in sound which triggers a flag in the viewers mind that something just happened or was changed. Now with fading in/out, actually in this instance I’m fading the birds out then fading in the machine gun fire all the while a normal looking video sequence change happened, seems to be acceptable or un-noticeable to the viewer in sight and sound .

Still working on this :)
Nero Wave Editor seems to be the program I want to use to edit the audio but anyone know why it doesn't load AC3 at all? I'm running Nero 7. Any other Audio edit fade in/out programs out there that you can recommend being able to accept AC3?
Thanks

Yes, and put the dll in the nero wave editor folder since there is no plugin directory. Do I need to do something else with it?
Thanks

Did you Read the "Using the Plugins" on the plugin site?

The .dll needs to go here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins ,and voila !,the file type will register in Waveditor File/Open menu (*.ac3)

I'll double check, I might have been looking in the wrong place C:\Program Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins. I need to look for C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\AudioPlugins. I'll let you know when I get back home.
Do I need to put the "Codec Based Upon" files in there as well?
Thanks

Ok, done :)

DVD Author 2 to edit/cut the video, DVD Audio Extractor to rip the AC3 out of my new video, Nero WaveEditor to add my fades where I wanted and increase volume, DVD Author 2 to put it all back together, Nero to burn :)

Thanks for all the advice and direction :)
Now only if DVD Author 2 would get their act together and be able to edit multi channel audio I'd be happy. They add great features but not fully :(
