In a few of my movie encodes, I'd like to rip out specific parts of a movie (such as an overly long intro, or just to shave off a few megs) by keyframe. Unfortunately, using directshowsource in avisynth doesn't allow me to make a direct stream copy. I was just wondering if there exists any programs out there that allow me to slice mkv files with X264 in the same way that VDub mod allows me to.

Try avidemux for a gui, or mkvmerge/mmg if you know the exact times you want to split on already.

Unfortunately avidemux does not support mkv (yet).
I'm too searching a programm that can load mkvs (w. h264), show me frame numbers, timecodes, jump to keyframes and cut and join would be great too...
The only alternative would be to use avisynth, load the mkv, find the frames... but keyframes still make a problem then...

Corecodec people had plans for a tool called TCME, based on gstreamer, but it never became reality.

I think he meant AVIMux GUI (not avidemux).
Alternatively FFMPEG might be able to do stream copy on matroska files. You can also try VLC that has a similar feature. None are editor but as long as they get the job done :D

Oh, here I've been thinking that avidemux was the one that had mkv support. I must have confused the two! Thanks.

VirtualDubMod loads and supports MKV but I'm not sure if it will work when H264 is in the matroska container - give it a try.

It works only when it has a single video stream in VFW format. Which basically means it only works if you made it in vdub, and not by any other means.
