Does my dvd drive actaully have regions coding in it?

I'm windering if my dvd-rom drive actaully DOES has any region coding on it.
I mean, i haven't slected a region on my powerDVD , but i can play dvd's from any region using my windows media player.

does that mean i don't need to tamper with my drive (please say it does).

If so, no all i have to do is get some sort of patch to region free my powerDVD.

It really depends on what drive you have. There are region free drives (RPC-1), mostly older ones. The most new drives are RPC-2, that means they are region-coded.
These Drives normally let you change the region 5 times before it gets fixed. You don't need to notice that change as the drive recognises the disc you put in and changes accordingly.

This has nothing to do with the region selection in PowerDVD. That one only has an effect on the software but not on the hardware.
