Hi everyone...

Would need your help on this...

I have a Sony DVP-NS32 DVD/DivX player which should play normally DivX files. I made a DVD disc with DivX and Xvid files. Inserted the DVD disc to the player and it only played the divX files so I read somewhere online that if I upgrade the firmwire, it should play Xvid files too. So I upgraded the firmwire and it did play the rest Xvid files

Later I asked one of my friend for his DVD collections but there came the problem. There was this DVD disc with 3 movies [6 files, Part I & II] and he told me they were all in Xvid. I pop the DVD to the Sony DVP-NS32 player but the DVD wont ever load it

Funny enough my friend's stand-alone player plays the same disc although it isn't Sony DVP-NS32 so what is wrong with this DVP-NS32 or does anyone know what I can do or how to solve this problem?

Any help and suggestion is highlly appreciated
thnx in advance...

That particular player is fitted with one of Sony's own "in-house" developed chip-sets (the CXD-9804R), so I guess only Sony can conclusively answer your questions!

Sorry about that :(

Hi,

Just looked at the SAP test for the Sony DVP-NS32 here: http://www.divxtest.com/form/divxtest2_list.php?lang=eng .
Just posted a while ago here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=837526#post837526

So the Sony is not very compatible ( 37.5%) but not so bad for xvid (with latest firmware I suppose).

The problem +maybe+ related either to:
- too much bitrate; if so, nothing to do except re-encode from original with the home theatre profile (or ESS with AGK)
- packed bistreams or 4CC (the codec identifier). In this case see the excellent tool mpeg4 modifier in this thread : http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=78050&highlight=mpeg4modifier

Too bad for this :(

Thanks Did,

If packed bitstreams is No, what does it mean and how can I change it to Yes because some of the file have Yes and others No.

There is also different User Data for these files...

Hi,

First make a sort between avi that works, those that plays with problems and those that don't work.
Second see if bitrate is related
Third look at the 4CC and/or packed bistreams(PB).

At that point you should have a better view of you problem(s)
If PB are involved mpeg4 modifier can unpack them, not pack them so either your SAP plays PB well and you have nothing to do, either it don't play well and you can use mpeg4modifier to unpack them :)

Same goes for user data (=4CC) if it says xvid and plays well nothing to do, if it doesn't change to a string that plays well (DIVX50, DivX503b830p, DivX999b000p ...)
For more hints, search in the mpeg4modifier thread.
