I'm new to this page.. But I'm not new to burning DVD's so I didn't think I should have put this post in the Newbie Forum.. I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place.. Anyhow.. I have a DVD Player/Recorder, Now when I put a blank DVD-RW into the recorder It asks me to Initialize the DVD as either DVD-V or DVD-VR. I initialize as DVD-VR.

Now here's my problem. After I'm done with the recording.. I would like to edit it with Nero7 Ultra. They have an option called "Make or Modify DVD-Video (VR)" It keeps telling me that the proper disc is not in the drive.

Either the computer doesn't recognize it at all.. Or it recognizes it as a ".VRO" file. and even when the computer recognizes is as a ".VRO" file. Nero7 Still doesn't recognize it.. What's even more confusing to me is that I do have 1 DVD-VR I've recorded with the DVD Player that nero DOES recognize and will Rip as MPEG-2. But it only seems to do it with that One DVD...

They're all DVD-RW's. They all "NOT" finalized (But regardless of being finalized or not, I'm still having the same problem) How come it's only letting me edit that One DVD-RW as a DVD-VR?? Can anyone help me out here?? Anything help with be appreciated.. Thank you Guys.

1) What specific brand and model is your DVD recorder?

2) In the same sentence you said "they all 'NOT' finalized" and "regardless of being finalized or not..." is contradictory and makes your problem even more difficult to understand. Regardless, you must finalize the disks before it will read or play in another drive or player.

See what your manual says about creating disks that can be played in different standalone players - you may simply be selecting the wrong format.

I'm sorry about that.. I'll explain it this way..

DVD-RW#1 was initilized in my "Samsung DVD Recorder & VCR DVDVR320" as a DVD-VR..I Recorded 4 Hours worth of Video on the LP Speed. I did not finalize DVD#1.

By the way. Both these DVD's are the same brand, Just so there is no confusion.

DVD-RW#2 was initizled as a DVD-VR. I recorded 4 Hours Worth of Video on LP Speed, I did not finalze DVD#2.

I put DVD-RW#1 (Which is now an Unfinalized DVD-VR) into my computer to edit with Nero7 Ultra, (Odd thing was when I checked out "My Computer" the DVD Drive said "CDROM" ) I was able to extract the video on there into MPEG-2.

I Put DVD-RW#2 (Which is also now an Unfinalized DVD-VR) into my computer to edit with Nero7 Ultra and the DVD drive spun for a few seconds.. Then stopped and I was unable to do anything with as the computer and nero said there was no disc in the drive..

I have done several DVD's the same way, none worked in the computer. Whether the Disc was Finalized or not. I have tried finalizing them.. They still won't work.. Only DVD-RW#1 has worked for some reason.. I called Nero about the problem.. They told me unfinalized or not.. It should have worked and that they don't know why One DVD worked and the Other Didn't. and to do some updating. and reinstalling of Nero.. I did all that... Same problem...

So, I Turn here... Can anyone help me out?

It says right in the manual (available here (http://product.samsung.com/micro_manuals/dvdvr320/um_DVD-VR320_manual_eng_050511.pdf)):

• DVD-RW (VR mode)
- This is a format that is used for recording data on a DVDRAM
or DVD-RW disc. You can record multiple titles,
edit, delete, partial delete, create a playlist, etc.
- A disc that is recorded in this mode may not be played
by existing DVD players.

Perhaps the one disk that does work was recorded in the DVD-Video mode.
