I am looking for some options on how to watch DivX/XviD/OGM/MKV videos on the go without having to recompress them? I was looking at several different personal video players but all of them seem to require the user to recompress his/her videos first. That is a hassle if you have a lot that you want to take with you. I was hoping that Archos or Creative had something that could handle DIVX, XVID, MKV, and/or OGM natively but that seems like a pipe dream at this time. One of the options that I was told about was to get a Pocket PC. Coupled with a program like Core this would be a perfect solution. However, I would like to know if there are any other options before making a purchase. Does anyone know of any other options other than getting myself a laptop?

Edit: Title and main body changed a little per suggestion.

What is the best way... Please read and follow forum rules, specifically, rule 12: do not ask what's best. Thank you and welcome to the forum.

Currently I don't know of any portable/personal video players that offer playback of max 720x480/576 sources.

Sigma have some development kits that are supposed to offer such resolutions (and more)... but as far as I know, nobody has actually manufactured any devices!

Doesn't the gp2x from gamepark appearently supports 720x480 sources ?
IIRC it scales the video down if viewed on the tft screen,
however if it is connected to a TV via tvout,
the original source res will be used/played.
If you want to know about the gp2x,
you better ask at the gp32x forum.
The only thing i remeber is that it uses the MMSP2 chipset.
