View Full Version : chapter info mismatch with the original

I demuxed und remuxed a dvd to add some subs streams.

demuxed with dvd decrypter, choose under settings->IFO mode->create additional files "chapter information - ifoedit" and remuxed with ifoedit.

first "but":
the chapters in the chapter-info file are more than the original (20 in the created file, 15 the original)

second "but":
because I wanted to re-mount the film to the old structure with all the extra, VOBBlanker gave me problems when substituting the original movie with the remuxed one (with wrong chapters).
So,I edited the *.txt, and erased 5 chapters (choosed randomly), BUT, after remuxing everything, there wasn't a single chapter matching to the chapters of the original movie

I also tried to edit with IFOedit the VTS_01_0.ifo (VTS_PGCITI->VTS_PGC_1) some cell values, typing the values of the original one, but, afterthat, the film won't play correctly

here what I edited in VTS-01_0.ifo

Cell_X: playback time (BCD)
Cell_X: entry point sector
Cell_X: start sector of last VOBU
Cell_X: last sector of this cell

many thanks!

EDIT: I've forgotten the question!! (but I think it could have been understood anyway)

How to make the chapter of my new remuxed film working like the source one?

The celltimes.txt file determine the cells, not the chapters. Your original DVD has probably some cells that are not used as entry point for a program and chapter.
You have to create the same number of cells than in the original, or you will probably have some troubles later.
You should also use muxman instead of IfoEdit to remux the streams, especially for NTSC material.
When the title is remuxed, you have to shift the programs, so that they are at the same position than in the original, and delete the last chapters of the chapter table. It's not easy to do with IfoEdit, but really easy with PgcEdit. :) Just click on the programs you want to remove, and edit the PTT table to remove the chapters that are assigned to non-existent programs.

Do not try to edit manually the cell playback time and VOBU sectors! It's really dangerous, and those values must be set properly according to the VOBs.

okey, but I used Chapter Information.txt to remux; and, when i went to replace the new remuxed film to the old structure, VOBBlanker didn't do it cos of different chapter's number! :(

I'll get a try with Muxmman

yeah, I noticed it can get dangerous editing that values! ;)

That's what I've explained. The name "Chapter Information.txt" is abusive. It should be "Cell Information.txt". The muxer adds a new chapter at each cell, and you have to manually remove some of them in the remuxed DVD. As I said, it's easy to do with PgcEdit.
Muxman will probably do exactly the same thing. It's not a bug. There is nothing in the text file to indicate which cell should be used for a chapter, and which not.

yeah, I demuxed with pgcdemux, and got the celltimes.txt! ;)
so, I remuxed everything with muxMan, and when I went to substitute the new remuxed film in the old structure, VOBBlanker gave out any problem! ;)

now I must do adjust some values with PGCedit to make recognizable some streams, and then I'll burn...
..and see if everything is okay! :)

Don't forget to verify your chapter and program points. With some luck, there is one chapter per cell, but that is not guaranteed.

yeah, chpaters are 15 ,and so cell! so, I'm lucky!

but I didn't like the remuxing of muxman, cos it changes subtitles order...

for example, if I set english to position 2, it comes out in position 1..

I'll have a try again with ifoEdit, but this time using celltimes.txt! ;)

also, tha ac3 audio stream came out at a very, very low volume...

Muxman should respect the subtitles order if you gives him the right parameters. Verify the PS/LB/Wide buttons! It's a little bit tricky to understand how to set them when you mux a 16:9 video.
The AC3 audio volume has nothing to do with the muxer.

Take care with IfoEdit. It has some bugs, especially when you mux NTSC material.
You can also try DVDPlanner, a new muxer that looks good. But I have not tried it yet.

What most people miss with the subs is the spinner (0.17) or radio buttons (0.15) to change stream numbers, so they override the previous file and end up with only one stream.

Believe me, 'm not crazy! they get out disordered, I did it twice!
and really, Icannot understand why now ac3's volume is so low!
It worked greatly until yesterday...

okay, demuxing and remuxing again... :(
I'll hate this film.. :(
(btw, I'm not muxing NTSC video)

I'll search a guide for those PS/LB/Wide button...

@mpucoder: I don't get what are you referring to..

Yeah, everything is allright now.... but..

but..

the first subtitles stream doesn't display subs at all when I replace the reauthored movie to the old structure...
If I watch the single movie, subs are well displayed...

why...please tell me why..
this things are really driving me crazy, it's months I'm working on this dvd, and as soon as I solve a problem, something new get out...

:( :(

How did you replace the titleset?

Look in your original title's domain streams attributes and in the new title. They should be identical.
Also, look at the PGC streams. Again, they should be identical.

To tell you "why", we need some more information.
If there are some differences, click on the PGC of your main title (using PgcEdit) and call Info -> PGC. Post the info here, between [ code ] [ /code ] marks. Do it for the original PGC and the reimported one.

Post also the output of Info -> Streams of both titles.

I replaced it using VOBBlanker..

I think with "original" you mean the one I remuxed, cos obviously stream attributes are different to the true original one, since I added audio and subs streams! ;)

so, obviously I checked my fully reauthored movie with the remuxed, and domain stream attributes were identical
also PGC streams, if i'd have found some differences, I'd have thought to had found the error! ;)

fully reauthored movie(the one who doesn't display first subs streams)

OK, I can see at least one problem, but I don't know how many subpic streams are defined in domain streams attributes, so I'm not sure it's really the problem.

You have two subpics defined in the PGC. You should therefore also have two languages defined in domain streams attributes.

The first subpic uses stream 0 (0x20) for all modes. That's probably right.

The second subpic uses stream 1 (0x21) for wide, but still subpic 0 for letterbox and pan&scan. That's probably an error.
If your video is in 16:9, you should define a subpic for at least two display modes: wide and letterbox or pan&scan, otherwise subpic 1 will be displayed on a 16:9 TV and when the DVD is played on a PC, and stream 0 when played on a 4:3 TV. That's probably not what you want. Try to set subpic 2 like this:Subpic stream 2 status: 0x80010101 (streams for 4:3=0, wide=1, letterbox=1, pan&scan=1)You can do it in PgcEdit's PGC Editor. Click on the subpic button and change "0 1 0 0" to "0 1 1 1". Test on your standalone and a 4:3 TV.

(I don't know if there is a software player able to force 4:3 mode. For an unknown reason, all software players assume you have a 16:9 monitor, even if you watch your DVD in full screen mode! IMO, that's stupid!)

yeah, in domain stream attributes I have two language defined.

I'd have sworn to have tried to put " 0 1 1 1" but didn't work..

Infact, now I set "0 1 1 1" and doesn't work.. (on win media player)

now I'll burn it to have a try on my standalone player, but I'm not trustful, I think I've already tested it in that way.. :(

EDIT: nope!, doesn't work.. :(
