Thx to Doom9 for answering my previous quesiton. I did as you told:

My Question:
Can you do the 2-pass first pass and then 2-pass second pass with DivX4 in Flask just as you can in VirtualDub? If so, how do I do it?

From doom9:
sure you can and the procedure is the same as always.. just that you select the divx4 codec and configure as described in the divx4 guides. Then once the first pass is done you have to change the codec configuration to correspond to the 2nd pass and start again and this cannot be done automatically.

So after Flasking the MPEG2 into DivX with first pass, which results in a 60 or so MB file, I changed the codec setting to 2-pass, second pass, and clicked "Flask it!" again. The program then prompted me whether I want to overwrite the 60MB file. What use is the 2-pass then? if the first pass file is just overwritten by Flask? I know this is done differently in VirtualDub but I have problems with my MPEG2 file (a TV rip) which all the programs I've tried resulted in out-of-sync (and if I skip to forward into later parts of the movie while watching, it causes even more audio out-of-sync). Flask is the only program that did this flawlessly. So I'd like to stick to Flask.

i believe it overwrites it as once the final file is made the first is useless

the 2 pass first pass avi file is completely useless. all important data is stored in c:\divx.log (if you doesnt change the path).

I see. But then I tried encoding a different video file. This time, I used 2 pass second pass immediately. I didn't use 2 pass first pass. The movie was still encoded fine and was playable. Isn't the log file suppose to contain information about a movie only after it's gone through 2 pass first pass?

the divx4 codec keeps all your settings (I think most codecs do) so the logfile used was from the previous movie.. apparently that works but you'll certainly get better results doing both passes.
