View Full Version : Any tools to shrink a divx/xvid file from 700m to 350m in size?

I'm looking for a tool/utility that will allow me to resize (I guess re-encode) a 700meg divx/xvid file into one that is 350meg. The main issue at hand is not losing the audio sync and relative ease of use... any recommendations from the pros?

Hi!

Just use VirtualDub (or VirtualDubMOD) with the same DivX or XviD codec you used originally - and lower the bitrate...

use megui to compress it to x264.

Something like AVIReComp (http://www.videopedia.pl/avirecomp/) should do the trick. It uses VirtualDub as the back-end - but it's GUI will make it easier to use. Just remember, no matter what tool you use, you will lose some quality when shrinking / re-encoding.

Which movie (or series)? You may need to lower the resolution. For square pixels I'd used an .avs (directshowsource) + virtualdub considering the bits/(pixels*frame) ratio.
I'd recommend to see the original encoding options with mpeg4modifier (the "video info button")

p.s. however, x264 would do wonders I think.

I would say AutoGK. Just choose 350 MB as the final size, and let it do the work alone for you.

The quality would be way better with MeGUI, but it's a little complicated to get along with it without knowing a bit of encoding methods.
